Default Queen's English Car Show

Any Southern California owners coming to the Queen's English Car Show at Woodley Park in Van Nuys on Sunday? Three of us from the forum have already agreed to meet, any others like to join us? Always a great turnout for the cars and the parts swap meet. If anyone is interested, send me or Tirefriar a message and we'll try and put together a little "corral" of forum members.
Google Queen's English Car Show for registration forms and information.

Wish I could but I am getting the exhaust system upgraded this weekend. I'm doing the June Monterey run. Hope you can make it.

Tirefriar and I are both planning on attending in June, sorry you can't make it down this weekend. The shows at Woodley, whether the Queen's English, the French and Italian Show, the Mopar, or the GM shows are always huge and well attended, lots of cars and fun.

Is the admission basically free if you just want to walk in and browse around but if you want a space for your car then it costs?

In any event I am almost walking distance to Woodley Park but have something else going on mid-day. I may browse over in the morning but is there a place where the other forum members are meeting?

Admission to walk around and view cars is free. To display a car is $20.00. Tirefriar (George) and I (Ted) are meeting for breakfast at Denny's at Burbank and Sepulveda at 6:30-7 and then heading over at about 8:00. Tom is driving up from Orange County and will be joining us about 9. If you'd like to join us, just send me a message and I'll give you my contact info.

Default Queen's English Car Show

Just got back from a day at the Queen's English Car Show at Woodley Park in Los Angeles. Great turnout, beautiful cars, lots of Jaguar Forum members, and Jay Leno and one of his restorations. Some images below:

My favorite is the red XKE.

There was a show on TV today where they selected the best all time cars in different categories, such as Sports Cars, All Terrain Cars, Rally Cars, Power Cars, etc. When the came to Beautiful Cars, the XKE was their selection for number 1.

I remember coming out of a post office and seeing a brand new XKE parked there at the curb in about 1965 or so. I was stunned, and immediately in love.

That moment, in fact, is why I now have my XK8. I think that our first gen XKs are a great revival of the original XKE, but, honestly, I think that the XKE is actually a prettier car.

I saw one on the highway a few weeks ago for the first time in probably twenty years or so, and I had forgotten how small they actually are. To me, they always looked like they had been designed by an aircraft designer. On the program today, when they were talking about them, they said that the man who designed them did not call himself a automobile designer, but rather, was an aerodynamics engineer, as he was trying to design something with aerodynamics as his foremost consideration.

1961-1975 Jaguar E-Type - Top Speed

It’s design was created by an aerodynamic engineer named Malcolm Sayer. The front engine, rear-wheel drive vehicle featured a moncoque body and a tubular front chassis. The six-cylinder double-cam engine had three SU carburetors and produced 265 horsepower. The suspension was independent with disc brakes on all four wheels. It brought together the best or aerodynamics, coupled with the latest technology and propelled by a potent engine. The vehicle was not only fast, it offered excellent performance and handling.

KevinD,
I saw that show on Velocity TV, last night. When the category for the most beautiful car of all time came up, I told my wife and son who were in the room that the winner of that category would no doubt be the XKE. Sure enough. The car shown was a BRG convertible, and there was an exact duplicate (unless it was actually the same car) at the show today. It was beautiful and unrestored. The intereting thing was that all of the XKE's and the Xk8 coupe and my XKR convertible were in one line, and when you looked down the line at the hoods and the stances of both cars, the heritage became obvious.

I love the rear view of an early XKE. That is, in the genre of a 60's GT/Sports Cars.
I think that it can be said the the early XKE's, though called GT's, were much closer to Sports Cars then than our XKs.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar_E-Type
In March 2008, the Jaguar E-Type ranked first in a The Daily Telegraph online list of the world's "100 most beautiful cars" of all time.[2]
In 2004, Sports Car International magazine placed the E-Type at number one on their list of Top Sports Cars of the 1960s.

On its release Enzo Ferrari called it "The most beautiful car ever made".

I saw Ted and a few others at the show today and I was surprised to see only two of our vintage XK8/R (Ted's and another guy). Unfortunately I was only able to spend a short time walking around and looking at the various other cars but hopefully next time around I will be able to get a space for my car as well.

I also attended the Queen's English show today. It was great to meet TireFriar, TBerg, and ClackKent. I would say that there were well over 120 cars there, and from a bunch of brands. Or, since we are a Jaguar forum, I guess I should say Marques.

I will try to list them. If I miss any, please add to the list.

1. Jaguar (Including a C type!)
2. Lotus
3. Triumph
4. MG
5. Singer
6. Sunbeam, both Alpines and Tigers
7. Aston Martin
8. Land Rover
9. Rolls Royce
10. Bentley
11. RoadMaster (the big red double decker buses)
12. Austin-Healey
13. Jensen-Healey
14. One Daimler with a 2.5 litre V8
15. Morgan
16. Austin (many mini's) ;-)
17. Morris
18. Bond (Those are the strange little 3 wheel cars that have a one
cylinder motorcycle motor mounted on the same strut with the front
wheel. To start one you open the hood, step into the engine
compartment and use the motorcycle type kick starter!)
19. McClaren

20. There is one more but I just can't think of the name.

21. In addition, there were vintage British motorcycles. Vincent,
Velocette, and BSA.

22. Oh, yeah...there was a Berkley.

All in all, a very enjoyable day.

Tom

Here's a Jaguar publicity shot from 1996 using XK8, XJS, E-Type, XK120 and SS120 which illustrates the heritage and development.

That's exactly how they were lined up, yesterday, except for the XJS, which the two of them attending were alone in the second row. And which in this picture, clearly while attractive, is really not a continuation of the styling lineage of the XKE (as the Xk8/XKR clearly was).

I was the other guy with Ted. We were the first ones to enter the field and got the top spots right by the check in area. Saw each car coming in and as you can see from Tberg's post, Ted is quite handy with that camera. Great show, wish more guys from the forum would've showed up.

Any chance you have more pictures of the primrose yellow E-Type sitting behind the grey coupe? My favorite car & color of all time.
