Reason: Edit typo in thread title
You are VERY unlucky to have a coded radio in a US specification Jaguar. I've read less than ten instances reported across our forums in several years. As John says, you need the 4 digit code which would originally have been on one of these:
This is the code card from my 2001 XK8. Jaguar Dealers can lookup your vehicle's code from the VIN. Here in the UK they usually do it for nothing if approached in the right way.

Yes I have a 91 Vanden Plas bought new. A couple of years ago the radio went dead. I removed it and removed the covers. I found a cap had leaked and destroyed the traces on the board. Repairing that the unit would not work, I found the main MPU circuitry flaky as I could add capacitance from my finger to turn on the display. I also found the backup 3Volt battery dead. Once the radio was turned on all i got was static. Seems there was no Alpine brand similar that i can find.
So, i found a 92 Radio with no code, I used the jumper setting supplied on this site.Worked Great!! One thing the cassette load solenoid was fried. Will fix the cassette and reinstall.
In my '93, I found a copy of that card tucked in the trunk near the power antenna. It was held in place with some duct tape, so it may not have been a factory location. Never the less, I was glad to have it.
the Radio Code number in my case, was 6541

Where coded radios were fitted, 2 code cards were originally provided (they are the size of credit cards) in a cardboard folder in the document set wallet in the glove compartment.
It just so happens that I drove the Jag to work today, so I went out and snapped a photo. I'm simply not concerned about radio theft on these things, and I like the idea of someone reverse-engineering their coding scheme..
Clearly it's generated from the radio's serial number, but I expect it will take someone better at math than I am, to figure it out..
