Hi everyone. Just replaced bulbs in the center console, radio does not illuminate except fro the LCD. Seeing as the dimmable lighting works and is not fused separately for the radio, I think the issue is in the radio. Found this post on the subject: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...o-help-155055/
Apparently there is a resistor that is known to overheat. Will taking the radio apart this weekend, any other recommendations?
Nice fix there, hadn't heard of that before. As that's the early radio only found on the 97 model, I doubt many are still in use.
Even the later models are often replaced with modern units for better functionality. I think it looks so much better with original equipment though.
I should get round to fixing those bulbs in mine, though I rarely drive it at night, so not a big issue for me.
Once it is removed, you need to remove the radio by depressing to metal clips on top and sliding it forward:
Follow this thread for the front panel removal and LCD light replacement. I used CEC7219 bulbs available from Amazon. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...t-97-a-167779/
Remove top cover by lifting back up and sliding it back:
Remove the back plate:
Remove the board in the middle by pulling it up gently, do not damage the connector:
In order to remove tape mechanism, remove four screws:
In order to remove main PCB, you would need to bend four tabs so that they align with the openings,
Similar to the front panel removal. Lift PCB up and slide back.
Remove burned out resistor:
Solder two wires to the PCB, leave extra slack for future resistor connection:
Assemble everything together in the reverse order. Be careful not to damage pin connectors. Solder in and mount the replacement resistor as shown. I use 7.5 Ohms, 10W, attached using JB Weld.
I did not replace the bulbs as they were all good. If you decide to do it, I would use 7219 without the base as they are slightly larger than the original.
Reko19, Thanks so much for posting this!! Excellent write up. Also Baxtor, what a brilliant hack!! I am kicking myself for not thinking of trying something similar! Btw, are you inserting it wide bits first or bent bits first? I’m arguing it both ways in my head right now since I’m not remembering how those clips are on their leading edge…
