Question Rapid clicking (ticking)

Should I be worried if there is a rapid, low volume clicking (ticking) when at idle? I'm becoming more and more familiar with the workings of the car and just want to make sure I know what to expect, and not expect.

Does the speed of the ticking vary with the engine speed or is it constant?

Or possibly fuel injectors cycling.

As Steve suggested, a sample of the sound would help. These cars are a mechanical symphony!

Paranoia.......following this forum is like reading medical texts, you come down with everything. Injectors most likely, as you guys said, quite a few things going on that can make some noise. No codes probably no problems if she drives well.....either that or the car is ready to explode.

Could be the evaporative emission canister purge valve solenoid behind the righthand wheelarch protector.

Edit: Of course, when I say righthand, I mean lefthand!!

Agree with the paranoia comment. This site is great but if taken the the wrong way can heighten your sensitivity too much as far as your jag is concerned!

I only hear it at idle and, even then, it's not every time.

It is probably the purge valve as astomorg suggested. There is a TSB (attached) if it is very annoying.

My ticking (not engine RPM related, of course) got louder in the wintertime, and a new purge valve fixed the annoyance. It can be irritating.
