Default Is it really The ABS

I just got my car back from the body shop after a minor fender bender. When I took it into the shop, it had no issues. They had to replace and repaint the left fender and the front bumper. However, when I picked it up, I had a traction control/ABS code. I assumed it was the usual ABS module failure, so I had it replaced.

After replacing the module, I started the car and ran a scanner, but it wouldn’t read the module. I rechecked the connections by removing and reattaching the connectors, and it finally read the module. However, I started getting multiple codes, primarily indicating a bus issue between the transmission control module and the ABS. I went through this process many times and always came back with the same result.

I checked the connections again, cleared the codes, and drove it home, but the codes returned. So, I am wondering:
  1. Is it really the ABS module?
  2. Could it be that, after they replaced the bumper and fender, they forgot to hook something up or tighten something down?
  3. Could the module I received be defective?
The latest codes I received were:
  • P1799 Bus error
  • U1263-00 Panel to control module error
  • B1849-00 Climate Control Differential - circuit failure
  • C1137 ABS control module malfunction
Again, when I took it to the body shop, there were no errors.

The 1997 XK8 uses either of two modules. (one year only)

JLM20129 = 5 pipe, 6 valve.(LJA2210BH written on the case)
JLM20130 = 6 pipe, 9 valve.(LJA2210AH written on the case)
The number on the case is NOT the Jaguar part number.

They are VERY HARD TO FIND.

If you had your original module replaced, I will bet that is in an INCORRECT module?(just a guess)

I hope you kept the old module so it can be repaired?
I would guess that these modules are NLA from Jaguar and getting scarce.

it had no issues before so not sure what the problem is. Not sure how to tell which one I was supposed to have

I just posted what you should have.
Do you have a 5 pipe or 6 pipe ABS Hydraulic Control Unit?

I bought a 1998 XK8 convertible with a 5 pipe 6 valve ABS system.(EXCEPT TRACTION CONTROL)
It had the MIL illuminated and communication problems.
Turns out someone in the past installed a 2001 onward ABS control module for a car with ABS/TRACTION CONTROL. (6 pipe 9 valve)

I dug through my pile of modules and installed a CORRECT module.
No more faults with the brake system.

So I pulled off the module and the are 9 pipes on the abs. Here is the interesting thing I unbolted the abs but pulled nothing off but the cables and put them back on which I have done 50 times. I left the bolts off and to it for a drive and nothing came up except B1849 for my climate control. Pretty nuts. I am afraid to bolt it back up. One thing I forgot was when I took it for the drive I left the reader off. I guess time will tell

HOW MANY PIPES are going in/out of the Hydraulic Control Unit?

I just tried to replace my abs module (I purchased another rebuilt module from a popular company). Numbers matched up and everything. However my 2001 decided it needed to be reprogrammed on-top of everything. So I ended up just soldering the joints by myself, on the original module. I'd recommend sending it to ModuleMasters to be rebuilt. Not too pricey either. Hopefully the shop who worked on the car will cover the costs of the replacement, because you came in without an issue and left with one.

You cannot have 9 pipes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are 5 pipe hydraulic units and 6 pipe hydraulic units.

5 pipe units have SIX solenoid coils and six actuators!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6 pipe units have NINE solenoid coils and nine actuators!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can put the wrong module on the wrong hydraulic control unit and it will bolt up.(IT WILL NOT WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Please take a pic and settle this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not sure what the pipes are but looking at the actuator there are nine pipes. Two rows of four and one and the last row. So AH is the module I have. Sorry was not sure what you were speaking of. Just thinking that there is a grounding problem. I took a look at the electrical diagram and I only see a few ground points that might have been affected and one of this was under the drivers front fender

I think there's some confusion. The ABS module has 9 "blue round things" (a technical term) that connect to the pump housing.



But the pump housing will only have 5 or 6 pipes. Mine has 6.

But the pump housing will only have 5 or 6 pipes. Mine has 6.Thanks for your message. I kept the part on because it was somewhat working, and I didn’t want to make any changes. However, I'm beginning to suspect the issue might be with the OBD2 port or the reader I'm using. After clearing the codes and driving it, most of the error codes disappeared.

It could also be related to something else that happened the last time I was working on it — maybe I hit something or didn't properly secure everything back in place.

How long was the car in the body shop? It wouldn't surprise me if your problem is a flat/dead battery.

If your Hydraulic Control Unit has 6 pipes, (9 valves) then you need a JLM 20130 control module.
The control module for your car does NOT have blue coils.(cars VIN A00083 onward)
It needs to have the tan/grey coils and the part number written on the case needs to be LJA2210AH.
No other control module is correct for a 1997 XK8 WITH TRACTION CONTROL.

Any other modules could cause DTCs or communication issues.

The 1998 XK8 I bought came with the 9 blue coil module and I had all sorts of issues.(for cars VIN A00083 onward)

I replaced it with the correct 6 tan/grey coil module to match mt 5 pipe, 6 valve control unit. (EXCEPT TRACTION CONTROL)

The 1998-1999 XK8 needs JLM 20555 (EXCEPT TRACTION CONTROL) or JLM 20556 (WITH TRACTION CONTROL)
The 1997 XK8 needs JLM 20129 (EXCEPT TRACTION CONTROL) or JLM 20130 (WITH TRACTION CONTROL)

ALL XK8/R cars from VIN A00083 onward need JLM21323 (WITH TRACTION CONTROL 9 BLUE coils)

All cars FROM VIN A00083 have traction control. No 5 pipe, 6 valve ABS. ONLY 6 pipe, 9 valve ABS.

Don't get me started. It's been too long—almost five months. However, they said they had it on a tender, which is BS because the clock was way off. But you may have something there. This is a weekend car only, so time will tell if there is still a problem.

If the control module has been disconnected from a car for an extended period, it will need to be configured to the CAN bus.(WDS or IDS)
The INCORRECT PART FITTED display will be the key if it needs configuration OR the incorrect part really is fitted.
