Rear brake rotors
#2
If the XK8 has been in a rainy climate for a while, the rear as well as the front rotors rust at the joint between the rotor and axle. I tried using a block of wood and hammer; I tried applying a rust penetrator, then wood block & hammer. Nothing worked until I got out my mini-sledge hammer and beat the rotor off, of course destroying it in the process. I should have tried a torch....may be that would have worked...do not know.
Good luck with getting them off.

All 4 of my rotors were frozen to the studs. No amount of beating with a mini sledge would budge them.
Finally a light bulb in my head clicked on and I bought a couple of cans of CRC Freeze Off. Spray about 1/2 a can at the studs base. Use a lot of it !!! Then the rotor will just fall off like magic.
NOTE: the fumes are toxic. Use a fan and have garage doors open.

In addition to the above, the rear rotors could be binding on the handbrake/parking brake shoes. Backing them off slightly will help if so.
See this thread from jagophile. It contains details of what to do and pictures :

Thanks all
It seams cleaning around the hub and studs and penetrating oil and the correct terminology while beating the crap out of the hubs with a dead blow hammer worked. I can provide a list of words and terms used in the process upon request. The freeze Off is a great option.
This is the first brake change at 37,000 miles. The original pads where directional on 355mm rotors, are they still available or is there a better option like ceramic. And why do the brake shoes show wear when never used?
