Rear View Mirror and Conv. Top Question
Hello all...New for the forum and very thankfull...Getting ready to perform the dreaded hose exchange for the top latch and was wondering if you can use just any fluid like power steering fluid...or the $97 Jag fluid? Also, I'm getting ready to do the dreaded mirror exchange-repair and am still not clear on which way to "pull"....Do you pull straight down vertical towards dash...or down and forward following the angle of the windshield? And finally, I heard that if you simply unplug the mirror electrics, that the glass will clear-up over time....is this true? Thanks in advance. This forum has kept my Jag out of the shop for 3 years now!!!! Thanks all

The proper hydraulic fluid for the top is Pentosin CHF-11S and can be found many places for around $20-$25 rather than the exorbitant rate that Jaguar charges. I got mine from the local Mercedes dealership so I didn't have to have it shipped.
For the mirror, pull straight down following the windshield. I actually took a board and popped it with a mallet from above. As far as unplugging the electrics, I don't beleive the glass will clear up, but don't quote me on that.

I have boxes of faulty electrochromatic mirrors and they don't really clear up. When the fluid drains completely they are a little less distorting. You can get a replacement and send your's for a core. Do a search for Magna Donnelly electrochromaic mirror or something like that.
