Are you sure the illumination enable does not turn off after 10-20 minutes or so? I know when you leave the trunk open, for example, eventually the trunk lights shut off.

to be honest with you I only tried it for a couple of minutes. I was thinking that it takes the same times as it does for the dimmers to fade out

will give it another go

Everything is connected and back together. The good news is green led on the mirror works, +12v goes out in about 15 min. The bad news is shining flash light into mirror sensor does nothing. So $100 question is do I leave it alone or take it out (and risk breaking the windshield) and send out for repair. The car will be mostly driven in the summer in the daytime I am inclined to leave it alone, the **** part of me wants to send it out for repair. What do you guys think.

When I started this project the mirror looked perfect. After one month of use I see the dreaded separation of jel inside the mirror in half- moon shape. I can't win. Add to this that I broke one of the vents trying to take care of the squeaking noise from under the windshield. Not my day I guess.

It gets better, mirror leaked during the shipping (I sent it out to repair) and damaged the housing. I guess looking at the positive side it leaked outside of the car and did not destroy anything else. Anybody has old mirror you are willing to part with so I could use the housing?

You might want to try a breaker yard.
