Default Reduced Steering Effort at Speed

I didn't like the high steering effort at speed in my XKR Coupe. The following Mod will keep High Boost in effect at all times and is not too light at Speed (in my opinion). I have used this mod on my previous 97 XK8 and now my XKR.

You could also install a rocker switch to turn it off & on as many others have done.

So does it bypass the variable ratio steering all together by keeping the boost at max, or does it continue to function?

The signal from the Speedo is a Pulsed Signal where the Pulses/Second indicate the Speed.

With the Signal Wire Removed (or disconnected through a switch) the Control Module gets no Speed Signal and thinks that the car is going 0 mph. Under that condition, the steering is in Max Boost Mode.

I am not a high tech guy like some of you are, but it seems to me that some sort of device that operates something like a rheostat does for electricity, might be put in line that would allow you to vary the amount of steering assist.

Now, wouldn't THAT be wonderful?

You can cut the Blue Wire and connect the leads to the Switch, (You would be connecting the Switch in series with the Blue Wire) En route to the Module.

Won't work. The Speed Signal is a Pulse Train with the Frequency varying with the Speed (NOT a Analog Signal).

I have had the switch installed in my car for over 5 years, all you do is splice into the blue wire with an off on rocker switch. If you go to Radio Shack they have a switch for about $3.00 that will fit under the dash on the left side next to the valet switch.

If you look at the photo you can see the switch. With the switch on it operates normally with the switch off you have assist. When driving at low speeds or parking turn the switch on once on the road you can turn it off for less assist. This is a very common mod in the UK. I actually send the switches 6 at a time to a company in the UK for this mod.
