Remote door lock chirp has turned into a beep... and won't lock?
Well this is odd. I went to lock the XKR after lunch and instead of the typical 'chirp' and locking of the doors, I'm now getting a 'beep' that sounds like an error, and the doors aren't locking. I had the windows cracked, but don't think that would have made a difference... I inserted the key and turned it to roll the windows up, and tried locking again. BEEP! What the... Well, it's just sitting there unlocked for the time being. Luckily I work in a good area. Any ideas?
Oh hi, btw. I've been gone for a few months. I moved to a new place, and had the XKR in the safe hands of motorcarman getting new head gaskets during that time as well (so that's why it started drinking a pint of coolant every 10 mi. but didn't drip anything...)! Back to daily driving it now, but a couple more itemized threads coming up shortly.

The error tone usually indicates a fault with the status switches for the bonnet, boot, ignition lock barrel or doors that will keep the SLCM from locking the car if there is an indication of something 'OPEN' or the key still in the ignition lock.
Check the little flap in the ignition lock for 'sticking' and listen for the 'key-in-ignition' chime when you open the driver's door with the key in your hand.
I guess the cooling system is back to normal on the car???

Cooling system is back to normal! And that CEL still hasn't come back yet! What a relief, for now.
Well it was odd, the door was already unlocked as I mentioned, so I didn't try and fuss with it at the office, but when I locked it back at home, it worked perfectly normally again! I did drop the top's windows and door windows, and then rolled them back up before I left, so maybe that did some sort of reset. We'll see if it happens again... Also, the battery is only a year old and the car wasn't sitting for 3 months without being started, it got driven occasionally during that time and certainly started. And I've been pretty much daily driving it for the past 2 weeks, so wonky voltage is highly unlikely.

Beep no Lock solved via search

I turned my XKR off, removed the key, opened my door, and it was quietly beeping at me as if the key was still in the cylinder. I got out, shut the door, and the car wouldn't lock. I got a loud BEEP instead of a quiet Chirp+LightFlash when I hit the lock key on the fob. I came here and advance-searched for "Lock Beep" in thread title in the X100 forum. I saw this clue about the ignition lock little flap from 7 years ago. I put a bit of light oil on the end of the key, worked the little flap with it for a bit, and problem solved!
Thanks, Bob...
