Removing XK8 Navigation System

Removing XK8 Navigation System
I have gotten a little frustrated with the Nav system, and bluetooth in my 06 XK8.
I was wondering if anyone has looked behind the NAV screen in the dash Is there room to mount a 1 1/2 sized din stereo.
I was thinking I could put in a new system and get Nav, Bluetooth, IPod all the modern whistles and bells.
Anyone looked behind their dash ?
Thanks Dave

Dave, its quite an adventure to replace everything in your car, trust me, but if you are up for the challenge, it can be worth it. You can see my thread here where I replaced the stereo, speakers, navigation brain...basically everything. If your NAV is your biggest complaint, you can swap it out for a Garmin GVN 53 system and use your factory screen and tie in the audio to your factory amp. It actually works pretty well. Bluetooth for me is now just frustrating with the microphone being built into the new deck, once I get above 40mph, people say I break up and they can't hear me, but hearing them is very easy. Then there is that alternator whine that I am trying to remedy...but that is another story for another time.

RE: Removing XK8 Navigation System
I looked at a system like you have of integrating the existing screen for other options. And while it leaves the stock appearance. For Navigation Use, and IPOD control its not real easy.
So I thought about yanking out the existing Nav screen and putting in a Kenwood touch screen. Then while pondering I was wondering if maybe there is enough room behind the screen to mount a standard 1.5 Din touch screen system.
