Welcome to the forum TreelandXK8,
The three things that need to be done following a battery disconnect/reconnect are:
1. reset clock
2, reset radio presets
3. reset window travel limits
European vehicles (and a tiny number of US vehicles) are fitted with coded radios but this does not prevent them from powering ON.
The radio will power ON after a reconnect provided it is not switched OFF and there is power to the head unit.

It would not be the first. Usually you can get an used replacement on eBay for a reasonable cost.
