Default Replaced Front Brakes - NOW ABS Traction Light is on. Please help!!!

Hi,

I just purhased a 2000 XK8 Convertible with 74K miles. The previous owner replaced 2 front brakes 2 weeks ago and now the ABS light is on and the traction control message is on.

How do I handle this? Do I need to replace/clean front sensors or need to change the ABS control module?

Thanks!

First things first. Clean the sensors and check the condition of their wiring harnesses. Dirty sensors and damaged wiring harnesses create the majority of these issues that we all have to deal with. Plenty of threads here in the XK8 section that inform you how to go about cleaning the sensors and repairing faulty wiring harnesses....

If you still have a problem after following Jon's advice, the following article on jagrepair.com might help. Note that a couple lines below the top there is a link to a checklist:

JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource

Whatever you do, don't buy a used module, it might also be defective. The most common cause of the abs light after dirty sensors and bad connector wires is the solder joint to the abs pump within the module. You can repair it yourself or go to ebay for repair services.

I just noticed you are in the Atlanta area. If you are not too far from Douglasville you can bring it to me, I have the Autoenginuity software to read Jaguar codes, and can pinpoint the problem.

It is not good practice to post your phone number on an open forum. Now that I have it maybe one of the moderators will remove your message.
