The fluid is designed to react to direct light shining into the mirror. This reaction gives the mirror its auto-dimming properties.

Is there a light sensor in the rear view mirror and in the windshield just below the rain sensor. My car is the 2006 jaguar xkr VE. Why two sensors for auto headlights?
