replacing outer door handles- just the handle

I lent my car to a friend back in Nov and got it back wit a broken outer door handle. My car was repainted so I know matching the paint will be tough so I'm just going to try to replace the chrome handle only. Question is since I had to drill out the "pin" on the donor I now need a replacement. Any ideas on what to use. The pin is roughly 4 inches long and 3/16" thick. I would need to be able to put two hads on it and I doubt I can weld them on as the pot metal and nylon washers won't take the heat well.

Found your short posting as I've got the same broken handle issue and I'm about to replace it. I've got the same repaint issue and don't want to remove the handle surround for fear of breaking the paint somewhere.
I have a whole new (used) door handle assembly. Any pointers you can provide before I attempt this? I know, disconnect the battery!
