I put the plastic one back on and it looks like I'm good. I suspect the o-ring is not the best idea for the job and deforms easily and the flat washer is much better. I'll see if I can work out getting the washer out of one of my plastic tops on put it in the aluminum one sometime.

I'm not sure which one I have. I bought it so long ago. But I believe it may have been from Uro tuning as that's the label that was on the hoses in the same box. OTOH, I think I saw a Rock Auto fridge magnet in there to so *shrug* I'll have a look next time I'm out in the shed.

It might. Even a bent wrench was tricky to get the full 60 degree movement needed though so there's not much tolerance. I'd recommend the bent wrench for sure.

I did cut the rear bolts down by 1/4" which I think was pretty essential and I did cut slots which was somewhat less useful. To be honest, I suspect that replacing the bolts with studs and nuts might be a good bet but that might bring some fiddly problems of its own.

Next up, the leaking coolant has been causing me to get low knock sensor level errors. Hopefully that will go away when it all dries out. If not, I have the two off the old engine. Though that's a PITA job in itself.

hi all..

i'm looking to tackle this in the next couple of weeks.... looking at using a crow foot wrench - am i right in thinking its an 8mm bolt?

secondly i was thinking about just installing a new plastic housing instead of the alloy. Just keep hearing about poor workmanship on the alloy upgrade and can't help but think that the plastic one has lasted 100k, so in theory a new one should last just as long so its the alloy one a bit of a waste?

cheers

Paul, the aluminum one from SNG, one of our sponsors, is excellent. Couple of things, get the two gaskets for the crossover tube and the short hose between the two. The 8MM is right and removing the crossover will be necessary. I did a write up back in May. I think, if you can find it. I will look in a bit. got to run right now.

Paul, did a quick check and here it is. Read down about half way through the thread and it will give you a heads up.

The aluminum replacement from Welsh Ent. is also good quality, and if you buy the one that includes the thermostat it's a bargain.
