Restricted Performance 2002 XK8
Had that message come up on the dash.
I'd been driving in steady rain no probs, went though not very big puddle (enough to throw the water over the windscreen). Stopped short while later, shopped, then on restart the Restricted Performance message and limp home with reduced rev's. Park up, following day start and same message, arrange local garage visit day later. Start and message gone, rev's freely.
Drive to garage error codes P0175, P1260, P1582. Non of which I've found in the forums.
Question: Is it possible that water/moisture was taken into the air intake? If so would that result in a fault reading from the MAF sensor, and result in RP?
Would standing and drying out cancel the RP? (Engine yellow warning light stayed on till reset), (not returned, as yet).
What do the code number indicate?

Below are the code definitions. Two of these are probably not water in the intake (security input and likely inertia switch tripped at some point in the past, probably because of a crash). But, you were driving the car, so perhaps no current issue with the security input and the inertia switch. Since the rich code is only on bank B, that may be telling you something, but suggest looking at the air filter first, correct any issue, reset the codes and see if it returns.

Thank you CR, I've been under the car today and visually there is no sign of any previous impact so unlikely that's the reason.
But when I stopped and the message came up on restart, I tried to pull away and stalled, start, try again stalled, then it would not start at all. Took the key out of ignition, waited (wondering what to do, how to get home in the rain) Key back in started and pulled away just on low rev's. So I'm thinking that combination was enough to confuse the inertia switch and register P1260.

P1582 is the DTC for EDR. (Engine Data Recorder) It is not really a fault, just an indication that an event has been recorded in the ECM.
PTU, WDS, IDS, SDD can interrogate the ECM for the data. The 37 frames of data can be read to see the parameters that triggered the event.
The P1582 cannot be cleared with a normal code reader, the data is stored in a non volatile memory area.
After reading the data it can be deleted. Just answer YES to the question "Do you wish to delete data?"
P1260 is mostly that the key was NOT recognized.

I would love to interrogate my ECM for the P1582 info stored.
What other magic actions can be performed with these diagnostic systems?
