Default Analysis of Broken Brake Switch

Based on taking apart the old brake switch, one can see what went wrong. One of the metal contact pieces broke. See pictures. Unfortunately, my problems continue - but that will be another post later today with details.

Default Highly confused.

Saturday evening I changed the Brake Switch out. It took about 15 minutes with the wife - thanks to others posting their experience on this forum it was easy to do. She simply gave me directions (up / down, left / right) while I was in the foot-well. Upon restarting the car, I still had restricted performance. I assume that the cruise control / check brake lights message is fixed...but I only got that 10% of the time before. Obviously the previous brake switch was broken, and hopefully the new one I put in is installed correctly and works. The switch goes in the opposite as I would have guessed, as when you push the brake pedal in, it does not touch any part of the brake switch. It only touches the brake switch while the brake pedal isn't being pressed.

I drove with the car (restricted performance), and did a Gus trying to pull codes. I did get a P0172 / no CEL (Bank 1 too Rich). That cleared itself with time. I then got a CEL with P0174 (Bank 2 too Lean), and that stayed on. Later, when idling and looking at the engine I even got a P1638 (ECM / CAN failure type code) - all hell brakes out message-wise on the Jag console. I did a Master Reset and still had P1000, P0174, and P1638.

Anyways, I drove the car several times this evening....and everything is completely fine. Restricted performance did not come on for the first time in 10 days and there are no CELs or codes other than my P1000. Hopefully, it will stay "fixed." The only other thing to note was that I did pour a bottle of techtron fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank and topped it off yesterday morning, but I doubt I went through more than a gallon of gas sense. Anyways...I may be fixed...time will tell.

Do you still have the P0174 & P1638?

No. The last 2 times I drove it there were no codes, no CEL, and no restricted performance other than the P1000 self checks not complete.

Kudos to you! Keep driving it and see what takes place if a RP or FS comes up see if you can capture the codes then post them.
