Smile On the road again.

Woohoo...........Got my machine back. Was in the shop for about a week and a half. Seems it needed a new power steering pump and high pressure hoses. I was going to try the repair myself, but now, I'm glad I didn't. Apparently they had some amount of trouble getting the old unit off. It ended up costing me as much for labor as for parts, but I'm just happy to have it back. Sure beats driving my S-10 pickup. This appears to be an uncommon problem, so, I hope it lasts for years.

Welcome back to the saddle.

I find that I truly miss my coupe when I'm away, or when IT'S away. Always feels good to see it, and drive it, again.

My power steering hose fitting leaked...twice, ended up with a connection repair on the first, then repalced the entire hose the 2nd time. I also thought my pump was going out (it was moaning quite a bit) but I had just run it a little low on fluid, soudns like you may have gone a bit too long in your case.

I've heard of a few power steering leaks during my stay here, not uber-rare, but not daily, I'll give you that.

You know, h2o, I questioned whether the power steering pump was at fault, mostly because I noticed the leak before it started groaning. Had been working fine up to that point, but I refilled it and took it straight to the shop. It was leaking very fast by then, (gotten worse) but drove with no groaning for about a block. My mechanic swore the pump was leaking and so I paid for a new one. I'm still not thouroughly convinced the pump was leaking, but he has never lied to me before, so I didn't argue.
The one thing I did argue with him about was the price of the pump ($300). I know that I could have gotten it cheaper from one of the sponsors of this forum. I asked him if I required further assistance from him, if he would let me price the parts myself, before he ordered any. He said yes, so, I guess we are on good terms again.
Gonna keep an eye on him though. LOL
