Not nice....... I have used BAS Hoods before and they are a good quality, you often find they were the original suppliers to some manufacturers, dont know for sure they supplied jaguar but I would recommend them. .... not to badly priced either at £417 inc of vat

XKRacer thanks for Bas hoods. How similar are they to original RE: layers and fit etc. Do they include the rear window?

I'm truly sorry for you. I hope the punks who did this get run over by a garbage truck during their next drunken act of vandalism....

I concur with selecting a well-respected convertible top & interiors shop to do your restoration. They have the expertise and experience, much more so than any Jaguar dealer who might attempt this in-house (which would be very few these days)....

Best of luck and keep us posted on your progress....

You dont get the rear window or the roof liner but these can be used from your original hood..... Mind you your liner looked ripped too! Not something to tackle for the faint hearted especially if you have had no experience with doing this kind of work.

You would find it easier getting a secondhand hood and swapping the lot with the frame, normally plenty on ebay

Thugs, mindless thugs!
My thoughts are with you, I am not aware of the security arrangements of your car park and most sadly I cannot advise on the repair, apart from it's your choice who you have repairing the car and I would definately choose Jaguar for the repairs.
If neccessary they can outsource the fabric repairs to restore your beautiful car.
I would question who has cctv in your area and possibly what kind of security is used for this site? I know time is essential to you during this situation but a little scrutiny may find and hopefully apprehend these individuals who obviously have questionable ethics. I wish you godspeed and good luck in rectifying this terrible wrong and hope to hear you are sorted amicably, for the future. Stu

The price I am seeing for an OEM soft top with liner is $7000 at Gaudin Jaguar. This may or may not include the $570 rear window. If you add labor, the cost to replace the top will run in the area of $10,000.

Insane....

As a number of us have said, go to a well-respected ragtop/upholstery shop in your area. They have the expertise and their prices will be far less than any dealership....

Nice! How about a group buy, if we get 10 of us together maybe they'll give them to us for $95,000 instead of $100,000

Keep in mind that Gaudin Jaguar is an online discount dealer going by "JPAM Jag Parts", they price similar to Coventry West. The dealer retail price is much more! To get a quality job, you are not going to get it for much less than I noted. When I was looking at XKR's in 2009, I picked the coupe after I saw the top replacement cost.

Just an update, this is going through insurance. I spoke to BAS Hoods and they were very helpful. A roof will be approx £400 plus another £400 for the lining then approx £500 to fit it, so makes more sense to me to take the insurance hit and pay my excess.
I'm waiting for estimator's report but have stressed I want like for like replacement so it will be a new Jaguar roof (approx £3000 +vat)

I'll post up pics when I get her back. Anyone know where I can get a hard top cover from?

Reason #5,213,564 to not get a convertible, see above
Reason #5,213,565 to not get a convertible: parking outside in the weather.

Glad I chose the coupe over the convertible at the dealership. Oh and glad I'm in SoCal too!

Thanks, really constructive input. Having a hard top didn't stop the ******* breaking into the other vehicles in the car park and stealing items.

What is it with all these coupe owners having a go at convertible owners?

Could it be the old "green eyed monster" syndrome.

But we convertible owners have to put up with the old "green shower monster" syndrome!

No need to apologize. I fully understand - I wish my wife's XK8 was a coupe. I am not looking forward to the green shower or any other trouble involved with keeping that Rube Goldberg-designed ragtop working properly....
