Default S-type to XKR engine swap

Hey guys! So I bought an 06 XKR with a blown engine, I talked to a salvage yard that told me the 05 S-Type with a SC was the same all I had to so was swap over the intake and exhaust. Upon receiving the engine I discovered theres more that are different... The oil cooler lines don't appear to have anywhere to bolt up, the oil pan looks smaller... Does anyone know a complete list of what I need to swap on to the new engine before I start? Also, Any other recommended servicing I should do while the engine is out? I have already ordered the intake gaskets, oil pan gasket, valve cover gaskets, front and rear seals, water pump. Anything else I should do?

I did this with a 2004 NA xj8 to XK8. mid oil Pan needs to be changed (that will give you the oil cooloer in/out) along with probably the timing cover. I swapped them over from the old XK engine. ALSO Swap the motor mount brackets- they are likely different, I found that out AFTER it was bolted to the tranny....

Before anyone can give you more details, can I assume that the 05 STR engine you purchased has VVT? (05 was the transition year for VVT on STRs.)
See image. If your 05 STR engine doesn't have VVT then you are screwed and you need to get a newer engine.
- Either way, both engines need to start off being basically the same; Both with VVT or both without VVT.
If they are the same basic configuration then I can give some more details.

To my knowledge, none of the X100 XKRs have VVT, so a 2006 XKR will not have VVT...

Then perhaps he is asking in the wrong forum. If he has a 2006, then possibly he has an X150 (Transition Year)

Car guy: What is you VIN, car's build date, and do you have an X100 or X150?

Build Date is 05/05
VIN SAJDA42B063A48078

Car does not have a solenoid in the valve cover so it doesn't look like it has VVT.

That's good news.
Means that the engines are interchangeable.

I'll start writing up a list of the things I know are different.

-1st reccomendation is that you head down to Hobo Freight or your local auto parts store and purchase 2 engine stands.
- You will want to put both engines on stands sitting next to each other so you can swap parts from your old engine to the new one. (Makes life a lot easier overall.)
- When you get the transmission off of your XKR motor take a look at the flex plates on the back of the engines. I've seen minor differences between starters flex plates and the trans torque converter so you will want to verify that that they are the same. (They should be the same, but it is worth double checking.)
- If your replacement engine has over 75K miles, you might consider putting in a new timing gear set. From my perspective, this is cheap insurance, but adds time and $$ to your swap.
- I will have to double check but I believe you will have to swap the engine harness.

More soon, unless someone else beats me to it.

So Im about to start pulling the old motor, Ive ordered...

Timing set - Complete
Timing cover gaskets
Oil pan gasket
valve cover gaskets
Water pump
rear main seal
front main seal
spark plugs
oil and filter
coolant

I think that's all I need. When I swap the intakes over Ill look at the condition of the intake gaskets to see if they need replaced.
Is the supercharger oil serviceable?

Pick up or order the infamous "valley Hose" (Best quality one you can purchase) A leak in this water line has caused many, many and I mean many headaches.
There are many discussions about this line on all the AJ series engine forums.
Best to purchase a new crankshaft pulley Bolt
You should also order at least 2 camshaft bolts (or all 4) if you have to remove any of the timing gear teeth from a camshaft.
You will have to loosen at least 2 of the camshaft bolts, one each camshaft pair, when you set the timing with the new chain. (I have had the camshaft bolt's heads start twisting and not achieve the proper torque and had to replace them.)

Do you have the camshaft timing gear alignment tool set? (There are many threads about this and how you can do it without the toolset.)
It will be easiest to remove and tighten the crankshaft pulley and bolt if you have the long arm removal tool. If you purchase one, be sure it works on the dual belt supercharger crankshaft pulley. (My set was too narrow and I had to machine a spacer.) The torque on the bolt is really high and I had to purchase a 300ft/lb torque wrench.

I apologize that I haven't been able to type more notes about what you may encounter.
I am still busy and was sidetracked due to Halloween.
