Looks like someone stored it underwater for a few months. Oof.

Dang, for someone wanting to do a NAV to triple guage conversion the matching dash panels and triple guage are worth about $500. Headlights are worth $100 each, the center air vent $75, on and on. At least the owner could get something out of it!

Which island is this on?

Jandreau,

It's on Pulehu Rd. right off of Hansen Rd.

Or was a few hours ago.

Looks like someone had tried to remove the orange "Abandoned Vehicle" sticker from the windshield when I was there.

If you are interested in the dash trim, I'd check it out sooner rather than later.

I've noticed that the kids seem to torch abandoned cars pretty quickly these days.

Not a good development.

Yelp that thing will likely be a bomb fire tonight. For those that don't know there's a weird little idiosincraty on Maui with the local kids. Been happening as long as I've lived on Maui which is 30 years. You leave a car broke down on the side of the road and it will be set on fire over night.

Use to see burnt cars all over the place but the county has a tow truck company contract now to keep them picked up. Bad for publicity with the tourist.

On re-reading your comment, I realize that you mean that you have a desire to save this damsel in distress.

I had initially thought you meant you needed help fixing it...

It is sad, But the ugly truth is that when a car depreciates to this point, it is just not worth investing any money in it. Now if you have a lot of extra room, it would be a good time to pick up parts cars. I'll bet that the XK8 will start to appreciate in value eventually, (probably before my XJS!)

Today I saw the same car all smashed up on a different part of the island. I have no idea how it got there, but it was looking a lot worse. The front end was trashed.

By Paia bay.

Sad!
