Scanner confusion
Wonder if anybody has had a similar problem with any OBD scanner, I have a U581 hand held scanner which works fine on other vehicles (non Jaguar) now when I connect to my 2000MY XKR i do get readings but I also get "Electrical Fault" thrown up on the dash and may be coincidence but on one occasion my door mirrors stopped foldind/unfolding (after disconnecting battery and hard re set started to work again) so was wondering if it is damaging to use this scanner, Any one had this experience before ?
thanks

Check the list here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/g...oved-**-33347/.
I don't think your is on the list for our Jags. Not sure who makes your "U581" though.
Wasn't that a U boat in WWII? :-)
Non-compatible OBD scanners can throw "phantom codes."

Memoscan U581
Sorry forgot to mention it is a MEMOSCAN number U581 sold by a company called UIF, it is the big brother to the U 488 as on the list of recomended scanners.
It does sort of work on the XKR but I am woried it may cause damage what with it throwing up Electrical Fault warning on dash, as the little brother works a would assume this one will be allright but its that warning I do not like,

Update,
Well have had car to local independant who has genuine Jaguar diagnostic equipment and guess what, his will not read the data stream either so looks like I may have a wiring problem. He like me can read and clear dtc's but as I said we can neither get live data from it, anybody had anything similar? have looked at wiring diagrams to see if there was anything obvious but no, as far as I can make out this is a CAN problem, am I right?
