Sea foam?

Sea foam?
Hi all,
Just finished changing all my hoses, including the "Octupus" hose.
The intake plenum and cylinder intake ports and valves are all coated with a wet, sticky, black soot. I'm trying to find an additive to break this down over time.
Was looking at "Seafoam" Anyone have experience with this product, or other possible solutions?
Thanks,
Jack

I'll probably draw fire for this, but the hint should be taken from the name...Sea Foam. If you perform a proper search to determine it's true use, you will discover that the product was developed for outboard motors and other water craft. It's intended use was never for automobile engines until some backyard mechanic gave it a shot.
My advice is to always stick to products that are developed for what you are trying to do. So, follow Gus's advice....and use car products one cars, boat products with boats.

I will say with 39 years of experience in the power sports industry, I.E motorcycles, snowmobiles, watercraft, atv's, Utv's, and automobiles, while the product sea foam has been used and discussed, I have never seen it do anything to support it's claims. I will also agree with Gus 100%, that BG 44K IS the proper product to use and it works very well indeed. BG 44K should be used by anyone with any of the above vehicles that I mentioned earlier.

Seafoam is nothing more than naptha, rubbing alcohol and light petroleum oil. None of those compounds individually or in combination are effective at doing much in modern engines of any type, especially when diluted in gas or oil.
When it was invented in the 1930s, it's sole purpose was unclogging carbs on poorly maintained two stroke outboards. Castor oil was the standard pre-mix oil used at the time.
Much like WD40, the company marketeers have spun the product a 1000 different ways to keep sales going. Whether it works or doesn't is not their concern.
