Default Seat Control Module

Been snowed in all week and decided to fix one of the postponed little issues. We seldom move the passenger seat and only discovered that it would not move a few months ago. It did work at one time in my ownership and had a '05 date so it has been replaced before.

Fuses #1 and 8 are good. Removed the module and opened it looking for the case damaged edge printed circuit. Found some blue/green corrosion at the Z1 diode at the suspect edge and it appears that it is open in both directions. Best I can tell the printed circuits lines are not damaged as I get continuity using sewing needles clipped to a VOM.

Haven't got a response from a car-parts.com query.

Anyone know of one of the module repair folks that might repair the seat module?

I think you can swap Driver's/Passenger's to check for proper operation. Back in the late 1990s and early 2000s I remember having to configure the replacement passenger seat modules in the driver's harness because the WDS would not recognize the passenger seat module. I called Tech Line and was advised to install it in the driver's seat, configure it and reinstall it in the passenger seat.

Swap modules side-to-side and see what happens.

Bob, thanks for the TSB. I put all your TSB posts in my Jaguar library.

Pulled the driver module today and the passenger seat works fine with it so the problem is clearly the module. While I had both out noticed that the VCAT extension was /100 on one and /400 on the other. I know the passenger module worked at one time in my ownership. Thought they had to be matched or can they be programmed by WDS / IDS? Both modules had dates much later than the car's manufacture date so both had been replaced by a PO.

I have replaced one on another Jaguar from a wreaking yard with a matched number and it was plug and play. Will it be if I find a mismatched /XXX extension? I have also replaced one on another Ford car for about $35. My module says Ford, made in Spain on it. Any chance of finding a Ford part match?

test point,
Modules for XK8's through 2002 were not programmable in the field, that commenced in 2003. The/XXX suffix is the specific software level programmed at the factory for market and application; i.e. RH, LH, Memory Seat, Non-Memory etc. To assure correct operation, you'll want to get a module with the correct suffix.

Cheers,

Not programmable?

How do my two modules function with different /XXX extensions?

It would greatly expand wreaking yard searches if I could ignore the extension.

Try car-parts.com

They distribute your parts request to hundreds of yards who will then respond directly to you. Many, however, have an auto response whether they have the part or not. Waste of your time and theirs.
