my 2004 XKR seat bottom goes up and down in front but not in back. The relay makes a sound when I push the button. the passenger seat works fine. I looked at the module but didn't inspect it really closely, jut took it out and looked for any obviously burned areas. If the relay works, that suggests to me that I take the seat out and look for a broken wire??

 

Yeah, my recline of the RH seat just gave up. I can hear the relay no mojo. Going to have to remove the seat to test beyond the module. It could be a bad relay, wiring or motor.

I pulled the module from under the seat and opened the case. I found a fried circuit path. I don't know why it fried, maybe the fuse was replaced with a heavyier amp fuse and the seat got stuck for some reason. Maybe the wires under the seat have shorted out.

 

Just received my repaired seat module board back from Mr. Turner. My unit had been damaged by abrasion and a botched repair job by the previous owner or used care dealer. Mr. T really did a top-notch job repairing the broken and abraded traces and vias, and protecting the repaired area with epoxy. Seat works perfectly now.

In a burst of energy today I replaced the non-working seat module on the passenger seat of my '99 XK8 with one I bought on eBay for $100 incl. shipping. Yes, I could have sent it to someone and maybe for $50+ shipping gotten it fixed and I may yet have that done as I have an IT guy over at Univ. of Florida who is going to see if he can find and repair any printed circuit problem it may have and if he can I'll then have a spare that will work on either side. In '99 at least they used the same module in both sides even if the passenger side didn't have any memory functions or up and down movement.

In any case I installed the used one today and it took maybe 5 minutes and works like a charm. It had been tested and came with a 30 day warranty so I took a chance.

Yes, and I probably could have gotten it for a bit less. They were asking $122 or best offer. They may have taken $90 but I didn't want to screw around making multiple offers.

Euroland Auto Parts in California...they have it's mate on eBay now but whatever you buy make sure it's been "tested" and has the same part # as the one you took out so you don't lose any functions. There are some part #'s that don't support memory and others that don't have the seat heating function so read carefully.

This link is for one that I know works on either side of a '99 XK8 as they use the same part # on both sides even though the passenger side seldom has the memory function or the up and down movement.

First it's 2019 and this is a pretty old thread but is Mr. Turner still working his magic on these seemingly fragile seat modules? One of mine (passenger side) has apparently just 'pooped the bed'. Should the answer be yes concerning Mr.Turner can my passenger seat back (2003 XK8 convert) be mechanically raised/adjusted so the passenger seat can change from being a reclined dentist chair back to being a car seat while the under seat module is in transit to Mr. Turner for repair?
All other functions for both seats are working correctly. Short of removing the seat to get the defective module out is there an alternate way (other than a crow bar ) to extract these modules and at the same time move the seat back more vertical? If removal is doable with the seats still bolted to the floor I could temporarily flit flop modules which sure would make adjusting the passenger seat back much easier prior to the repair/replacement of its seat control module . Please advise.

 

I have never had to have a module repaired (other than the infamous brake pedal switch) but I have been keeping a list of repair sources utilized by various forum members since January 2013. Thus far my list consists of:

The last I read a couple of years ago was about Darrell Turner having health problems. He is (or was then) still offering the repair service but taking some time to reply to emails.

It is possible to remove/swap modules without unbolting the seats. Remove the 2 bracket fixing nuts (arrowed in red) and the module can be pulled forwards sufficiently to release the harness connectors at the rear.




I should point out that the seat shown is unbolted and tipped backwards for the photo. There isn't that much working space.

The picture you've supplied of the under side of the seat is worth a 1,000 words, thanks! Time to grab a 10mm socket and start wrenching. Hope a 'flip/flop' of my seat modules is all it takes to get the passenger seatback to move forward so I can send the defective module out to be repaired.

I love your do-it-yourself savvy. Prior to purchasing my xk8 the passenger seat wouldn't recline, and I read your post then. The Salesman, however, said he'd purchase me a 'new' module, and sure enough the seat moves around perfectly. Unfortunately I didn't check the seat heat & it now doesn't work!
Oh well, I'll try your method & give it a look but I have a back-up guy who can hopefully re-solder the gaps if I can't get it to work.

I found out when I replaced mine that not all modules supported the seat heat function and that it was safest to replace your bad module with one with the very same part #.

If your driver's side module supports seat heat then get a replacement module with that part number on it.

I've got the phone number for Darrel Turner out in CF to request a repair of my defective seat module. Does anyone have an email address for him? I'm not a fan of calling a perfect stranger with a request for a service that he may or may not not be offering any more - especially as it has been mentioned that Mr. Turner may not be in good health these days. I'd rather make contact via email with my request than intrude on his time by phone should he not be well.
