Default seat release lever

How do you remove the knob on the seat release lever? Trying to find and replace the plastic plate but can't figure out how to remove the plastic knob on the lever.
Model is an XK8 2004

JTIS procedure for removing the backrest cover makes it look as if the knob is a push fit.

The second drawing of the lever with the button removed doesn't show any fixing holes so I expect there must be a spring clip inside the knob ......

Knob is push fit. It’s held on by a little metal T. You may need a small pry to pop it off.

The Escucheron is a real killer. If you found one (I looked for a year before I just bought seats from a scrapper for the plates) they are tab pressure fitted into a metal opening. It’s a PITA.

The screw under the airbag plate is just a self tapping screw into the metal frame.

Hi
Mine is a 99 XKR coupe.
I broke the escutcheon (lever surround) when I took the seat cover off at a local Jag Club meet.

The Jaguar plastics from our era are just awful flimsy garbage.

The escutcheon is just held on by two small metal prongs but if you try to lever it off, it will just disintegrate.

There is a guy in Italy with an XK8 who is doing these replica escutcheons with much better, stronger and more flexible plastic for 35 GBP.

The escutcheon simply push clips onto the two prongs really easy.

They are Charcoal colour but you can get the leather paint pens for your interior for only 4.99 GBP

I got a couple of these pens in Ivory, they are absolutely brilliant. The colour looks a bit bright at first but dries to a perfect match after a few hours.

Regarding the removal of the seat lever knob, that is a real PITA. If you try to lever it off with a small screwdriver, it will just break.

It is held on by a small bolt/rivet on the seat lever, so what I did was: (this may sound a little extreme)

Drill the bolt out from the small end, taking care not to damage the plastic seat knob.

The knob will then come off and you can affix the escutcheon.

You can then re attach the seat knob with a small bolt and nut combination which will allow you to remove the seat knob in future if required.

Hope this is of some help

Best regards

Steve Smith
