Default Secondary Tensioner Project Torque Values

Getting ready to lift off cam cover on right bank, when I researched this project I read that the torque values for this project were:

Cam cover bolts 9-11Nm = 8ft lbs
Cam caps 9-11Nm = 8ft lbs
Tensioner bolts 10-14Nm = 10ft lbs

My concern is when I loosened the cam cover bolts they seemed to be torqued much higher than 8ft lbs. Is 8ft lbs correct? Also I'm concerned about the low value for the exhaust cam caps and the tensioners, am I on the right track?

Yes, but you should be using a torque wrench calibrated in lbs/in, or just snug them down. They are always hard to break loose.

+1. The torques are correct. Do not give in to the temptation to over-torque or you may break a bolt or strip threads. There is some metal to metal adhesion which causes the higher removal torques.

You will know when the cover bolts are too tight by the sound of the plastic cracking. The gaskets are really only big misshaped 'O' rings that tightening beyond the cover touching the head serves no constructive purpose.

Default RB Secondary Tensioner

Your right !! don't second guess!!! continuing on and sticking to the game plan.

I thought I read somewhere when changing the RB tensioner you had to pull the safety pin and compress the tensioner down before installing. But simonnallen's HOW TO doesn't say remove the pin, he says install the new tensioner, bolt it down and remove the release pin. Which is right?

The new tensioners should have the pins in place. After installing pull the pins.
