Just letting you know - there is a TSB for the sqwauk noise from the ZF 6HP26 tranmission. It is an additive that is put in the fluid to help the noise. It does work.
Seismicguy - I feel your pain. I was in the same boat with my wife with regards to the car buying drama. It was that way until I came home with a 2001 VDP for her. Now I can get whatever car I want within reason as long as I dont trade into being negative. She loves hers.
If you are allowed to spend up to $50k, buy two at $25k and give one to her and keep one for you.

I would be interested in the 2005 Xk coupe, black on black. $38995 with 29238 miles.

Nice California car. So good climate. I would feel comfortable with it.
Still has the 40K service that can be claimed up until Jun 2008 or 40000 miles whichever is sooner. Man if you dont get it, someone is going to get a nice car there. Select edition warranty until October 2010 or 100000 miles. Also has Factory warranty until Oct 2008 or 50K.
Sounds like a sweet car to me.

I'm new to the forum and going through almost the same experience. Except, I am the wife, convincing my husband I 'need' a Jaguar XK8/R.He wants me looking at corvettes (been there done that when I was in my 20's and single). I test drove my first Jaguar with my 75 year old mom - she loved it. Last weekend my husband drove one with me, he wasimpressed and has agreed to drive nearly 200 miles to look at another one I have my eye on. Good Luck ! Hope we are both driving our Jaguar's soon.

Hi Guys,
No real progress yet. Late last year the subject of cars came up again and I really lost it and almost burst a blood vessel shouting (she basically just listened without much response). There was no talk of cars after that for a while until around Christmas when I surreptitiously arranged to have our closest friends (a couple we see all the time and also travel with) bring up the subject. I had previously told Paul about my wanting an XK and he had mentioned it to his wife. They have been bugging me as to when I would finally get rid of the 95 Vette (Paul knows people who would want it in a heartbeat).
So they asked over a dinner how my "car hunting" was going and also mentioned how beautiful the XK was. I mentioned that my wife was nervous about a used car and, on cue, they offered that a few year old car (especially with a warranty) should be little risk and that I should be able to get what I really wanted. The conversation didn't go too much further (my friends thought it would look suspicious if they pushed too much).
Another interesting annecdote happened a few weeks ago when we took a trip up to the San Jose area to visit my son and his girlfriend. I have a long-time high-school buddy up in the area so my wife suggested we visit him and his wife. We pull up to his house and his garage was opened showing off the 2000 Mazda Miata that he decided to pick up last year. Of course I fussed over it emphasizing how nice it was that he was able to get something fun just for the hell of it (hoping that my wife picked up on that).
My best shot is to get into conversations when other people are around since, almost without exception, the input is positive in my favor. If my wife keeps hearing from "impartial" others how there is little risk in getting a few year old car, especially if there is a warranty, maybe it will sink in.
In the meantime I have not really been looking as it was just frustrating me to see cars that I could not act on. But I still have hope as she has again started dropping hints about me getting rid of the Vette.
Believe me, when I finally "pull the trigger" on an XK (maybe a poor choice of words), this forum will be the first to hear.

One of the good things about being single is not having to ask permission, but it can be a bad thing....I now have five cars, but I love my Jag the most!
