Not crazy about the color or the wheels, but it's a COUPE! As with all CL posts; buyer beware!

I don't live that far away (West Chester, PA), but there's no room in the garage, my better half would reach her tipping point, and my vert would be jealous! Oh, and i still have to go to that pesky thing called work, which severely limits my time. All that aside, I would have been down there already! The parts bonanza alone is staggering.

Not sure where it is in Maryland, but easy enough to contact him and find out. Going down to see it, however, isn't the problem; it's what comes next. Since it doesn't run, there's no telling what might really be wrong with it; bad engine/transmission, tensioners, electronics, etc. Believe me, I've thought about it. But I'm not crazy about either the color or the wheels (for restoration purposes), and not interested in going into the parts business. A good, viable deal for someone, just not me.

Decided not to call on Thanksgiving, but will try tomorrow. Based on the area code of his phone, I'm guessing he's in Maryland in the vicinity of Washington DC (a bit of a drive for me), which might have some appeal to XK8 owners in Northern VA. Anyway, here's his phone number if anyone wants to check the car out:

You'd better make sure his paperwork is okay, and it's a long flatbed ride back to Texas. If there were any conceivable way I could buy it, I would. Unfortunately, as I said previously, nowhere to keep it (and not enough $$$ to take on a possible long-term restoration. I would hope that the seats are comfortable, because that's likely where I would be sleeping. But very tempting.......

Caveat Emptor a go go!
Take it from someone in the midst of bringing back a super low-priced XKR, there can me many hidden surprises. I am enjoying the process, but anyone thinking about a car like this should be ready to spend the time and money needed to do it right.
I didn't see any information on the mileage of the car, or condition of the interior. That might really be a costly issue if the inside is trashed or"improved" far from stock.
As far as the cylinder wash issue, it seems less likely that would be a problem this far down the road for a '98. No start from skipped timing could be a factor, or serious electrical gremlins another. There are a couple of Nikasil replating services out there that could bring it back for under $1500 if the cylinders are really trashed. I checked on it, but did not need to go down that path.
If I had a place to put it, I would ****** it up since I love the coupe. The further I get into my XKR, the more impressed I am with the engine and its design. Parts availability without spending the bulk of your net worth are an interesting challenge when you truly get deep inside. Especially pistons!
If you go see it, keep us posted.

All of us have been focusing on the car, and not the owner. I may be paranoid (alright, I AM paranoid), but what if this guy is using the car as bait for you to show up with cash and then mugs you for the money. Okay, a stretch, but there have been a number of violent incidents involving people who've responded to CraigsList ads.
