Side mirrors

Is there a way to clean the switch contacts inside the outside mirror controls on a 2003 XK8? Only one function is working from the joy stick and only on one mirror. It would be safe to assume that the problem is in the switch contacts as both memory one and memory two buttons adjust both mirrors to previous and very different settings. Assumption #2 is that if the memory buttons work the mirror motors and cables that adjust the mirrors must be OK too. The car is garaged in a heated environment so this years brutal cold weather isn't a player.
Anyone out there ever have the same problem and cured it without buying the very pricey mirror control switch?

I had a similar issue with a 1994 XJS for the drivers window control switch.
I took it apart and found that over the year some gunk had accumulated on the contacts therefore making the switch act up.
After all a switch is a switch they will vary in design but overall have almost the same internals and the same principle applies to function.
If I were in your shoes I would tear it down and give the contacts a nice cleaning, or when you have it apart you may be able to determine if the switch itself is simply shot.
Either way it won't cost you a penny and if you like tinkering with things, this will be a fun little chore.
It does seem to me from what you said the switch is definitely the culprit. My XK isn't working either but it is just the selector for the drivers mirror that doesn't work. I solved this my manual adjusting the drivers mirror haha

I did mine a few years ago, Like Graham said be very careful taking it apart, take it apart on a large cloth or carpet so nothing will fly around. I never lost anything.. I end up taking it apart and cleaning the contacts about four times, apparently I never got them cleaned good enough. I end up using a 1200 grit finishing paper on them.(the contacts on the circuit board) Then I doped them up with dielectric grease and they have worked fine ever since
