Default Silent Timing Chain??

Looking at replacing primary tensioners and guides then started wondering about the chains. The car has 50k, runs quiet, and I don't believe the car was ever abused because the previous owner was a little Ol Lady from Tallahassee. Replaced secondary tensioners so I got that out of the way. When I looked at lower chains on Ebay it appears that there are two different chains one says "silent type" has anyone has any experience with the silent type?

Not sure about 'silent type', but you probably do not need to replace your chains.

If you do however, this is one area where I would say buy a genuine Jaguar part. Saving a few dollars on an chain of unknown quality is potentially a false economy.

I tend to agree, considering the cars history and all. Thanks

The 'silent chains' were introduced with the upgraded oil pump and steel liners, etc.
You would need to replace the lower sprockets, primary guides, intake VVT units etc.

I suggest you stay with the 'roller-type' primary chains as they were fitted to your engine.

Is this effectively the same as "4.2" then?
