Since when tires prices are outrageous??
Time to replace my tires (already down to 4/32) by golly tires are expensive!!
$1000 for tires? since when did this happened?? lol what a difference in size!! my previous car was an older Saab with 17' tires $500 is enough to replace those tires...19' tires are at least $250 per tire even by Tire Rack standard ..which begs me to ask, what are you guys using? anyone uses other than PZero or Michelin Super Sports? if so what do you use and how much you pay for em? I guess I should've have realized the premiership getting into car like this means just about everything is more expensive ...sigh!

I'm running Generals on my XK8. Very nice tire, a bit noisy as they are wearing out but still quite responsive. I've gotten about 15k out of them should hit 20k by winter and will replace them then. On my XJR I have Kumho LEs and they have been great but only get about 15k out of a set. Both are about 125-150 a tire. I like max performance tires vs touring tires as why buy a performance car and put on tires that are made for breeder buggies. The last set of LEs I got for 80 a tire from tire rack as they are replacing the tire. They are just sitting waiting for the current ones to wear out. Be sure to check out what rebates are available at tire rack from tire cos.

If you search tires you will find about 100 posts. Some people run Hankook some Falken. I run Continental Contacts. Discount tire has their special that run about $750 a set. Keep in mind you need X or Z rated tires for all the time you are doing over 120 mph... As my Service manager used to say. "You are driving a high performance luxury car. You have to pay a little more for that"... If only they had performed high performance luxury service, maybe they would still be in business...

Search eBay for prices from smaller suppliers. Not a Jaguar but I recently bought a set of 18" Michelins for a Kia Borrego. Local tire store wanted $850 plus tax installed. Anything over 17" is going to be at a premium. Bought on-line with free shipping for $520, no tax and traded the 80% worn tires to an used tire store for the install/balance.
I just found a Michelin 18" for the XK8 for $150 shipped on eBay. That's $600 a set, no tax. It wasn't the 130 mph version but I seldom get above 80.

I rarely quibble about price when it comes to tires/tyres. My XKR is my DD. I put around 15000km/9000mi on it per year.
I am more concerned with handling and safety as opposed to longevity, so I figure that's roughly 3-4 years before I need to think about replacing them. Not that much really when you consider the cost per year for keeping the shiny side up and the rubber side down.
In addition, I always purchase my tyres from a local tyre dealer (after shopping around) and not online. If I do end up with a problem/defective tyre (it happens), a couple of hundred dollars saved online will never compensate for being able to go in and talk to a real person to resolve the problem.

Be thankful you didn't get into Jaguar ownership with an XJ40 on metric rims. Twenty years ago tyres for them were more than you've been quoted in 2016 for your XK8.
As has already been mentioned, apart from the rim size, the speed rating always puts a hefty increase on the cost.
On the plus side, given well maintained suspension and careful attention to pressures, mileage has got a lot better over the years.

if you shop around you can usually find a bargain. i know, I'm on 20" rims and they can get expensive quick.
My most recent rears cost me £65 each - toyo proxes t1r, an absolute steal!
I've got michelin pilot super sport on the front, they were £320 the pair, £160 or about $235 each. I didn't think that was too bad.

Haha..thank's guys
Yeah I knew about parts prices going in...I guess the prices bigger than a 17' really jumps...I am not really complaining I kindda knew that before buying the XK ...I merely trying to see what guys are running with? that being said I might check out the General I guess the Pzero the previous put on lasted about 20K so that's sounds about right...I still have 4/32 I'll probably change them out after the summer.

I've run 19-inch Yokohama YK580 tires from Discount Tire exclusively on my wife's XK8 since we acquired the car in 2012. I buy them on sale and I utilize the treadwear warranty when they wear out. The fronts (245/40/19) do about 49,000 miles for her (on a 45,000-mile warranty) and the rears (255/40/19) do about 33,000 miles for her (on a 60,000-mile warranty). Maximum treadlife for these tires on this car is achieved at about 32 psi on the fronts and about 29 psi on the rears. Great tire, great service, and I expect to stick with these Yokos for as long as we own this car....

That's very good tread life for a performance oriented/low profile tire.
I can remember when such tires typically wore out in 10-12-15k miles. When I had an XJR I ended up downsizing wheels and tires just to get a tire that would last more than 15k miles. When you drive 15-18k miles per year it gets a little old replacing 4 tires every 10-11 months
Cheers

I hear ya! But you needn't resign yourself to spending top dollar to be safe, as many lower cost alternatives are high quality and perfectly safe. And simply spending more money doesn't automatically ensure greater safety anyway.

Good for you. Good philosophy. A face-to-face, mutually loyal, mutually beneficial business relationship is certainly worth a lot...and something you can't put a numerical value on.
Cheers

Be aware they have a new YK tire that may soon replace the 580. Stock up now.

It works very easily and I've used it for decades....
For instance, these Yokohama YK580 255/40/19 rear tires come with a 60,000-mile treadwear warranty. My wife gets about 33,000 miles out of her rear tires before they are worn down to just over 2/32 of tread depth remaining. Do the math and she gets about 55% of the warrantied mileage out of her rear tires. So when I replace them, I get a 45% credit against the cost of the new rear tires....
A great deal indeed. It is up to you to rotate your tires per the required schedule (I always rotate my own tires when I do an oil & filter change every 6,000 miles), keep good records, keep the tires inflated properly, and keep the wheels in alignment. I've been doing this for decades and it has saved me a fortune on new tires because it is rare for most tires to actually achieve their treadwear warranty mileage. My local Discount Tire store manager knows me very well and never even asks to see my rotation records anymore because after more than five years of doing business with me, he trusts me implicitly....
