If you are near the Greater Cincy area, European Auto Repair in Blue Ash OH, 45242 works on these cars. They did the timing chain/tensioners in my 97 XK8 I owned. They have been around for a LONG time and work only on European cars. If you are close to them I would use them!!!

Work on my Car
Attention 'SMITHTREVOR'.
Not to be a know it all, but I suggest you get some Jaguar books---especially about the V8 Jaguar engine---and educate yourself.
The V8 Jaguar V8 engine used in all 1996 - 2006 XK8 Jaguars cars and the XJ8 series, and on, were never FORD engines. When FORD purchased Jaguar they did provide funds for continued research and building of the V8, but they didn't develop or design it. Just gave the funds and a place to build it.
You might also be interested to know that FORD used and I believe may still use the Jaguar V8 in some of their name brand cars--not the other way around. FORD also fell in love with the suspension and used that on some of their cars also.
Also, don't fall out when you find out that FORD only provided money and some tech support for the XK8. They didn't do any design or construction work on the car either. There are electrical components that are built with the FORD name on them, but to Jaguars spec's.

Doc, I get out to Columbus a couple times a year, if you haven't done them by late oct I might be able to come down and help or you drive up. I did check mine a few month ago (already gen3!!) .. I would suggest you get a new gasket and seal set, I found oil in two of my plug wells and fortunately had all new seals/gasket ready I'd previously ordered, as well as the tensioners which i didn't use. If nothing else we could have a chat about the cars, I think ur a 02 xkr as is mine.

Ford owned Jaguar if I remember correctly ? Or maybe all those Jag engineers I sat next to everyday were nothing but a dream!

How sad is that....so the plant I worked in and the salary they paid was not Ford even though a 60ft sign was over the door. In the middle of the machine shop is the V8 block line building V8 engines by Ford personnel and the trains that took them away had Jaguar written all over the side of them.
