Question Speedy Cup Holder Mechanism (200mph, approximately)

Hi Hafferf,

I'm here in Portland and need a new tank as well. What did you have to pay Shelton for the tank? Thanks! And since someone else started down this path--is the cup holder supposed to open lick a switchblade or nice and slow like the ash tray lid? Mine whips out at 200mph.

the little slowing gears on the side are broken off if it snaps open

Thanks, Brutal. I've searched through the threads with no luck, so do you know of any way to repair that without dropping the $140 or so on the repair kit? Thanks in advance!

Separated these cup holder posts as to not take the original thread topic off on a tangent.

BTW, mine was clocked yesterday at 150mph, easy.

My cupholder is better than both of yours...

When you pop it open, it moves nice and slowly, then when it gets near the end of travel, it "pops" the last little bit and falls right off its hinges, hanging only by the metal wire thing.

I'm looking for a whole replacement armrest top in the light beige color, as mine is very tired looking

I too had one of those hairtrigger flick knife cupholders!
I removed one of the two springs that assist in opening. Nice and slow now and no more hair trigger.

I may try that the next time I have that sucker apart.

Thanks, h20boy, for separating this issue out. I haven't tried the spring removal, but does anybody know what a new center console runs? Mine is looking pretty tired as well.

Good thing we do not have a cup-holder cop to give you all a ticket for speeding!

I see leather skin replacements for the seats, headrests AND center console on ebay, you may be able to score just the console leather by contacting the seller.

As for a full unit...I see $$$. Send Dan at Nalley jag a request, he'll get you a new price, but be prepared.

From the old jag parts list diagram (see Sticky in the FAQ for the full document) here's what it shows.

I bought a new console lid with cup holder off of ebay. The hinge is the old style that is known for breaking. My old lid has the piano style hinge. I tried the leather dye from Leatherique and it turned out beautiful. I'm hanging on to the NOS lid for future use. When I need to use it, I will disassemble the new one and attach it to the better hinged unit.
