Default Split window seal

Has anyone experienced this issue? As you will see from the picture, the rubber seal is split. This has occurred on both doors. I have uploaded a link to show what happens when the window goes up, but not sure if it will play, hopefully it will. I am concerned that if I purchase a replacement seal, won't the window break through the rubber again? Is it that the rubber has just perished (after 15 years). Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I looked at quite a few cars before I bought mine, on most of them this rubber had split in the same place to some degree.

This appears to be a common problem, but why does it happen and what can be done to prevent it happening in future if a replacement is fitted?

Yeah, my previous XK8 convertible also had this issue. My current coupe still has the rubber intact.

I did see on your video that the window shifts position as it rolls down.

There are some small rectangular rubber (was it felt?) clips that keep the window taut to the window regulator rails and door panel. I suspect yours have fallen. You will need to replace them as they are probably split and have fallen to the bottom of the doors. I vaguely recall that a member once fabricated replacements using tennis ***** or some other common household item.

You may need to adjust the window position as well. All this means the door cards have to come out.

Hi giandanielxk8, Many thanks for the advice. Will get my local dealer to look at it when it goes in for service.
