Splitting connector?

Splitting connector?
I am fiddling with the main instrument cluster in my Xkr 2000 year model. It has got two electrical connectors, FC25 (black) and FC26 (yellow). Is it possible to split the connectors so that I can see what wire going in to which pin?
For some reason, the Electrical Guide for the Xk range of 2000 year model is not showing correct colors at the pins!
I managed to slide off an end piece at one short side of the connector, is the other short side also supposed to slide off? How to split the connector completely..?

Could you post a picture?
Did you know that the jaguar manual on the electronics (yes I butchered that title- will look it up if you like) lists the pinout for each connector? Oops just reread your post, yes you do know this.
Higgins, battery disconnected. Grab a pin (like for a tailor) and a continuity meter.
Can you slip the pin into the back of the connector where the wire enters it? If so, touch or clip one lead from the continuity meter to the pin, probe with other lead to find exactly where the meter beeps.
A last choice option would be to pierce the wire with that pin then trace the path of that wire with your continuity meter. Like I said, not my 1st choice, but sometimes you gotta do what you've gotta do.

Yes I know that the Electrical Guide specifies the pins. The strange thing is that the colors are not the same for the wires, so now I don't know what to believe! My car is a 2000, so I checked the Electrical Guide for that year. For the black connector (FC25) accordlingly to the Guide it should have a white and green wire and a blue wire at one end (pins 1 and 14 respectively), but into that connector goes the White and green wire together with a pink and black wire. According to the Guide, the pink and black wire should be for pin 4. I checked the Guides for year models 1999 and 2001 in case my car would be a very early or a very late 2000 and maybe be of a 1999 spec or a 2001 spec. But no, 1999 is having a 48 pin connector instead of the 26 pin of 2000 and later. And Guide for 2001 shows the exact same spec for connector FC25 as the Guide for 2000 does. Might an earlier owner have fiddled with wires and mixed up colors? Possible. I can see traces of activities at the cluster itself, bruises in the plastic of the instrument cluster. Therefore I want to split the connector to trace the individual wires and see what pin they connect to.
For some reason I cannot upload pictures at the moment, tried several times. Will try again later
