Spring Location on Front Suspension Struts
#21
I measured the old springs I just took out of my '03 convertible at 15 1/4" with the new Lesjorfors at 15 1/2. So not much difference there. I think it's all in material getting a little "weaker" and letting the car sag. The spring is compressed quite a bit to get the shock bolt on and then trapped in the strut assembly. I didn't measure it assembled. How this helps. TM

Many thanks for the useful data point. What sort of mileage was on those old springs when you measured them? Back when I measured the free length of mine they were right at 15 inches after 54K miles and the front end of the car was sitting 1/4" low at 15 1/2" . I'm trying to decide if new springs or a small spacer would be a good next step to minimize loss of camber control. I wonder if anyone knows the free length of a new OEM spring and....to your point on 'sag'...what the load/deflection specs are for the upper 'comfort' coils and the lower "control' coils on our progressive springs.

My car has 83k on it. If you find in another thread "Thought I would never lower my Jag" the pictures of his car. Mine looked like the after pic but only in the front. My camber was visibly leaning in and with no adjustment I went with new springs to bring it back. However, I might have been able to get by with some spacer rings on the bottom of the spring. But that takes a lot of experimenting and more disassemble/reassemble. I'm leaving it as is and hope it sacks out just a little. Drives well though. TM
