I wouldn't go outside of OEM on something like the sensor, and also wouldn't trust anyone other than a dealer on something of that importance. I'd suck this one up, and just call it in.

You could always just exercise the connectors for the sensors - one in the A-pillar, the other in the backseat side panel, both easy to get to. Just unplug, plug, unplug, plug..even clean the contacts with some electronics cleaner if you're feeling randy ...that wouldn't cost you anything to try.

I just came back from the shop and was held up at grease-gun point! $3,800 for a new convertible top hydraulic system, pump, all new belts, oil change and wipers. The problem, other than the fact that I may resort to prostitution to help pay that bill, is the damn 1-7 airbag light is now on. And my passenger seat headrest no longer works (motor purrs, but no up and down motion, whereas before it would go up and down as reliably as a $20.00 hooker). Anywho, I'm bringing back to the shop, as they took the seats out to do the hydraulic repair, so I'm assuming they did something untoward during the reinstall process. Any ideas? I checked the connections under the seat and they look good. But they were mucking around the latch near the sonar sensor, which had some hydraulic fluid on it already (hence the reason for the repair).

The headrest not going up and down is simple--look at the faq for info on how to fix. I will hopefully be bringing my car in this month and will have them look at the 1-7 code I have all the time now.

Is the FAQ located somewhere in this thread? I've got the same problem too.

Thanks

when we refer to the FAQ for a particular section, we are pointing you to a thread 'stickied' at the top of a sub-forum's list of content.

Here's how to find it, as apposed to giving you a link.

Go to the top of this thread, you'll see that you are in the

Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum > Jaguar Models > XK8 & XKR

looks like a computer file directory tree. The forum is setup like that, all models have their own 'directory' or 'folder' in this system.

By clicking on the XK8 & XKR link, it'll take you to the very beginning of the files...I mean, threads in that sub-forum. See the FAQ thread in the short list of stickied ones? Its got lots of good information and links, and each car model has their own FAQ threads too.

please let us know if you find it, and hopefully, learn a little bit about the structure behind jaguarforums. I still don't know how some things work around here...

Thanks. I viewed the vids (well done!) and plan on tackling the headrest and my "sticky" steering column that doesn't always go down in a couple weeks. On the flip side, my 1-7 airbag code just went away today. It was sitting outside for three days in high heat and just cleared itself. I'm wondering if there was some residual hydraulic fluid on the sonar sensor after the top repair, and a few days baking in the sun allowed enough to drip off the sensor and restored it to within spec? In any case, the hydraulic system is new and tight, so there won't be any more fluid escaping. Time will tell on the sensor.

Had the car into the dealer today for an oil change and took the opportunity for them to check the 1-7 flash code. Their diagnosis showed Occupant Position System fault DTC 2291 (as several of us here had already predicted). The fix consisted of "reconfiguring the module/reprogram air bag control module". I am not sure if that means the actually replaced anything or just did some computer fix but it does look like someone tinkered with the A-pillar trim. Whatever they did the cost was $213. The mechanical breakdown warranty I have agreed to pay $172 (apparently the cap on labor charges for the warranty is $115 and hour and the rates at the dealer are $145!!!!). Out of the $172 I had to pay $100 (for the deductible).

The dealer also said I needed to replace the battery (not unexpected since this might have been the original battery) and the cost of that was about $200 for the battery (which is German of all things) plus labor.

Finally, they recommended brake fluid flush for about $200 and rear brake pad replace (Brembo) at $550--I declined both of those as I figured an independent shop might be a better deal.

If only you knew what they did behind that A-pillar. That's good reference info for others with the same code, and honestly...not too bad on the dealer repair charge either.

Yeah--that's the strange thing. I would have expected that they replaced or repaired something but the service guy said something about reconfiguring/reprogramming of the airbag module. Maybe they opened up the A-pillar just to inspect whatever is behind there. I tried to find out more but basically that is all they told me. I wonder if in the end it was just some loose connection and it would have sounded ridiculous to charge $200 for fixing a connection versus saying "reconfigure" and "reprogram".

I had an intermittent 1-7, and cleaning the wire mesh over the sensor on the center console cleared it. At least I think that's what it was. But I had hydraulic fluid leak just above the sensor from the roof failure, so really it could have been just about anything. The TSB says to be careful with the mesh ("don't touch the mesh as it's delicate") Take it for what it's worth. Good luck.

Doug also had a little green shower, could the light really have been caused by a little dried hydraulic fluid actually interferring with the ultrasonic transmission through that little screen? Now that would be rather hard to justify $200 to clean the screen.

I wonder if reconfigure/reprogram is techtalk for clean the screen!

Under the center console tray. Remove the four phillips scews under the armrest lid and lift off the armrest and tray.
