Staggered or not?

Staggered or not?
I'm letting the shop doing the work on my 01 replace the tires. Probably over paying a tad but they're really working with me, allowing me to source some parts from a few select vendors and a certain forum member.
The tire size currently on the car are 245 45's front and back. Tire rack calls out for a staggered set of 255's on back on the XK8.
What's the advantage/diadvantage?
I seem to remember my 07 had the tire specs under the center console lid for some reason so I'll have them check...car is an hour away...
NEVER MIND. Re-did the search in the proper search bar and got a ton of info.

The front and rear rims have a different offset as well as a different tyre size. I assume you've checked that the rims are fitted correctly front and rear as with identical tyre sizes all round it would be very easy to get the rims mixed up.
I doubt that you would notice the change in tyre sizes anywhere other than on the race track. However, as the front and rear are not interchangeable, even with the same tyre sizes, tyre rotation will never be an option. I would therefore fit the recommended wider tyres on the rear.

10mm either way from the placard isn't a big deal, so 235, 245, or 255 on the front and 245, 255, or 265 on the rear are all fine. You likely won't feel a huge difference until you're on the track, so choose based on cost/looks/availability - whatever it is that's important to you 😎
On a car with 4 identical wheels I'd always match tyre sizes so I have all the rotating options, on a car with staggered rims I'm with Richard and would run different sizes as a reminder not to mix the rims up

A lot of what I gleaned from my search said use the same tires so you CAN rotate tires. Thanks for setting me straight!!!
Love these forums.....thanks to both of you!!!!

if your tires are directional, then you would have to dismount them to do any rotating side to side.
if your alignment is correct, then tire wear should be even and there’s nothing to be gained by tire rotation.
