Default Stalling, Remove Mina Air Filter?

Yesterday my wife was driving our '03 XKR and it died. When I got there, it would start but then stumble and die after a few seconds. The shop is changing out the airflow sensor tomorrow, they think it's shot.

Anyway, the mechanic said he's seen the problem before on dirty or over-oiled filters. recommended swapping out my Mina filter back to a factory one. He got the engine to run and then die by tapping on the filter. You guys have any opinion?

If it was the air flow meter I would of expected an error code and the engine light to be on?

A typical cause of stalling is a crack or small hole in the induction pipe, take a look where the pipe bolts to the throttle body, sometimes they crack there letting air in which on slowing down causes over fueling and stalling. another classic is in the convoluted section of the pipe cracking.

Definately advise taking a look

You could spray some WD40 around those areas, if the idle suddenly picks up you have a leak.

I had a mina on my 99 coupe, 6 years, and the only problems I had was with the snorkel pipe having cracks in the bellows area. Heat fron the manifold will deteriorate the thin wall and cracks develope. I fixed mine by buying an air pipe from pep boys. You know the six inch chrome type the rice burners use for air. It came with silicone hose pieces. all you need to do is buy some big breeze clamps and put it in after you cut out the bad bellows. Under $25.00.
Or buy a new snorkel from jag $65.00.

Thanks, guys. I talked to him again this morning and he said it wasn't throwing any codes for that. It had a P0456 already but that was pre-existing. He said he'd hooked up an oscilloscope to the sensor and could see that it was malfunctioning, plus he could tap on it and get the engine to die (not tap on the air filter like I said above).

Thanks for the input on the Mina air filter - he's pretty down on that.
