Steering Column Swap 99XK8
I'm about to do a column swap on 99xk8 because something is broken on the shaft. (attached pictures) I can pull the whole shaft out. I have two replacement columns. One with a key and exciter and one without. (I bought the one without the key because of the motors)
I have read and reread the forumns, searched and can't find exactly what I am looking for.
1. Do I need to switch the ignition exiter from the one on my running car with the one on the replacement column?
2. How exactly does the exciter come off? Obviously they have to come off to switch the ignition cylinders. I see the one tab but I can't get to the other one.

The exciter ring actually just reads the transponder code and relays the information to the SCLM (security control locking module). You will need the ignition assembly from the existing installed into the new column. Using the new column ignition would mean you now need 2 keys 1 to open doors and 2 start car. Additionally you would have to take the car to someone will dealer level software for the new column key to be programmed to the SCLM.
