Default Steering Wheel Reach Cable

Reach motor cable appears to have failed. Have a replacement but cannot figure out how to 'drop the steering column'. Two upper bolts, what appears to be TROX, have got to come out.

Do I have to remove the steering wheel to get to them? Seems to be blocked from that direction. A little finer detail than the above 'drop the steering column' would be appreciated.

This subject just surfaced on the XJ8/R forum. Any input out there?

I have done this one, I am looking for the chip for my camera that has the pictures. If I remember correctly the motor just has one ty strap and it pops straight up and out.

Getting to the motor is the first issue.

Here is a snapshot from JTIS on the upper mounting bolts but there is no clear directions as to how to get to them.

I got the bolts from the back. all you need is a 10mm ratcheting wrench. If you send me your email I will try to send you a picture of where and what

Thanks, I wouldn't have thought of getting bolts from behind! Mine were 13mm and plenty of room for a ratchet after I undid the support brackets for the wiring connectors.

I managed to take the whole column out after undoing the bottom two support bolts and the bolt from the u-joint, unfortunately I need a new plastic threaded thingy (it has two screws to remove/replace) or new column~will see if there's a fix or a way around it.

Been there, done that re: the stripped nylon nut. Made one from a piece of Delrin. Still working after a year or so. Not recommended for the faint of heart. You'll pretty much have no two pieces left together when disassembly is complete. Then you'll have to carve out the nylon nut on your own from a block of whatever you get your hands on.The bracket that saddles the nylon nut is fastened with shear bolts that can be a pain to remove but the potentially dangerous part is making certain that the bolts you use to replace them don't come loose and lock the shaft up inside the tube - especially while driving! I thought about doing a how-to back when I did it but had second thoughts when it came to that point.
