Default ? stock rear mufflers avail from anyone

I let my mechanic throw away my orig rear mufflers a year ago, which was a mistake for my purpose. Anyone who removed theirs still have them and willing to let them go?

x pipe replace of center added character but drone, adding glass packs removed drone and removed character so now quiet as stock. Specialty performance muffler shop here in Denver says the two general purpose places I went to first were wrong and that x pipe with orig mufflers likely the best thing short of cut outs which they quoted as $800 using parts they say are more reliable than others. Shoot, I spent that much already with rear delete, center delete, x pipe and glass packs. Sigh.

So you are saying, on a stock standard, just toss the centre mufflers and add in a cross pipe and that's the best way to go? Good sound, character and no drone?

Yes, I saw on the other thread where the guys were experimenting with all sorts of crossovers and aftermarket rear mufflers. It seemed it was reasonably unanimous to remove the center boxes and install the cross over.
The ongoing debate was the rear boxes and tail pieces where there seemed to be many different choices, some very expensive. From what I remember, the guys who had gone this road could not really come to a concensus, it seemed to be their personal preferance to the sound achieved, or they were in denial, trying to justify their expensive purchase at the time.

I am glad you are going this route of just the cross over with the stock standard setup and rear mufflers. I for one would be very interested to hear what your personal opinion is once done. I have been toying with the idea of just doing the crossover, so I will follow this thread with interest. I'm wanting to acheive a little more throaty sound without any drone.

I have a centre muffler plus the two that sit in front of the rear axel, still sitting in the shop.

weis- what size x-pipe did you use? 2.25"? Is that what fits ours (re: mine, 2000)?

Default x-pipe size 2.25" diameter pipe

$30 part from summitracing, by Jones, $10, shipping. Probably $120 at Midas to have them replace center muffler with that.

My glass packs supposedly take 500 miles of use to get interesting so it's going to be a month and a few weekend drives. I miss that growl...

I have the centre and rear mufflers and would sell them cheap. PM me if interested. But I just replaced them with the Mina mufflers and would recommend you do the same. For the price they are amazing. They omit the middle mufflers, they go under the axle (which is not a problem and does not affect clearance, I assure you) No louder or drone, but a nice euro sound when you punch it. Also very nice classy tips and you see the polished stainless mufflers, if you look under the car. I am very impressed. PS, my local muffler shop did the change over for 100$

thanks, I appreciate the offer. If I were to add back stock parts it would just be the rear mufflers as that was the only item I let get thrown away.

My custom rear muffler delete was ok by itself. When I began doing other things in the center then I got the extremes.

I have to put in some miles with the glass packs to see if that will do or NOT.

just to clarify, this is what I was recommending.

It omits the center muffler and replaces the back ones. Very pretty and sounds great. Just a smidgen louder than stock, in a way that just makes the car feel more powerful and fun to drive. It is still quieter than my stock truck, fyi.
