Suspension woes… need advise/imput
#21
Well folks, just when I thought I was making headway, the cat scratched me again in typical jag fashion! So I dismantled my shock/coil to find that between the coil spring and the lower seat, there was absolutely nothing. Parts book shows a rubber spring seat between coil spring and lower seat/cup, and I have nothing. Maybe deteriorated and gone? Maybe never there? The world may never know. Any one else found this before?? Either way I ordered one for each side as well as bump stops which I couldn’t see behind the boot, and those were barely there as well. This is one feisty feline fighting me tooth and claw through this whole project. When it’s all back together I’m gonna romp the s—t out of this cat and show it who’s boss. It’s gonna wish it just cooperated with me haha!

The parts diagram on jaguar classic does not actually show the pictured part. It shows packers only, part number MJA2162AA. I have been making the one shown using a rigid poly but am not entirely satisfied with the material.
l would be uneasy not having something between spring tail and lower seat, even if only a thin cutting board ring.

I agree it does make me a little uneasy, but if it never had a packer or a wedge packer to begin with, then wouldn’t it be ok to put it back together without either? I have ordered the packers (mja2162aa) to put in either way, but further research tells me that the wedge packer is unavailable anyway, and I can’t find any on eBay or google. Don’t know what else to do here, seems options are very limited

After all trials and tribulations, I’m happy to say that first side is back together!!!! New ball joints upper and lower, new wheel hub bearings, new upper wishbone bushings both sides, new lower wishbone bushings both sides, everything sandblasted and repainted. New outer tie rod end, new sway bar end link, new bilstien shock, reused old coil spring, PHOBMANS upper mount rebuild kit, new lower seat bushing, new bump stop bushing, reused bellow…yup. Definitely needed all of the above. Here’s a few pics of finished product… and again thanks to all that have given input, much thanks!!!
hope this inspires someone else, but much much work and research involved, but CAN be done. Now on to the other side !!
