I ordered a new thermostat from the dealership. When I opened up the new thermostat, it’s in pieces. And the one that is currently in the thermostat housing is held in place under 2 plastic tabs under spring pressure. Did they send me a broken thermostat or do I have to assemble it? And, how do you release the spring tension to remove the old thermostat? The currently installed thermostat This is how the new thermostat arrived.

JTIS is no help on this one. It looks like you just have to press down on the formed metal bar and twist it so the ears disengage from the plastic lugs on the thermostat cover. I can't see where the smaller spring goes (probably on the spigot behind the plastic disc) but you'll find out when it comes apart.

Translation: "Jeez what was that, it nearly took my eye out!"
Looks simple but near impossible to do. We made a tool to hold the end and allow us to press the spring down and lock. Info and pics in my thread ..the Stst. Search under username should reveal needed info. Goos Luck
