thinking of a DB7

I look at Aston Martins from time to time but just cannot justify buying one. The XKR has a better ride, better interior, very similar appearence, and very similar performance but is $20k cheaper. See this report by Top Gear:
Top Gear: Jaguar XKR Vrs Aston Martin V8 Vantage (HQ) - YouTube
The DB9s are great and if anyone buys the kidney I have listed on eBay I'll get one because that the only way I could afford it.

I too love the DB7, and yes, I know the XK's are better in many ways, but I completely disagree about the interior.
The DB7 is LEAGUES above the XK's.
Also, apart from anything else, there's the badge.
I love my XK8 to bits but one day, I'll have a DB7.
That isn't being disloyal to my Black Beauty - it's just honesty.

I think that part of the problem with minimal forums on DB7's, is that the vast majority of people who buy an Aston Martin wouldn't dream of doing their own DIY, or anything else for that matter.
It's a well told tale of the guy who bought a DB7, then had to sell it again just to pay a servicing bill.
With an Aston Martin, I think it really is a case of 'Whatever you pay for the car, have the same amount put aside for maintainance'.
They are famously reliable and bomb-proof, but equally famous for being horrendously expensive to repair if necessary.
Also, don't forget that you won't find any 'pattern' parts, or many (if any) Aston breakers - 95% of all Aston's ever built are still on the road.

I've always liked the DB7, but not enough to take one over an XKR. I think the DB7 is some of Aston's purest styling.

I am a huge Aston Martin fan and have been promising myself I would get one for my 50th birthday for years.
I have done A LOT of research on them - far more than I did on the XKR before I bought that - and have come to the conclusion that the DB7 is not for me.
Back in 2002 my uncle bought a brand new one, but even then I didn't really take to it. And neither did he, actually - he sold it on after a couple of years. The problem is that the DB7 is basically a reskinned Jaguar XJS, i.e. ancient. The proportions are all wrong (short wheelbase and huge overhangs front and rear) and the interior is so 1970s, even in a good colour combo.
Finally, there's the price: roughly speaking, at least in the UK, DB7s are selling for about twice the price of similar spec'/age XKRs.
Conclusion: I am saving up for a Gaydon-era DB9, preferably a post-2008 model.

In the UK, Jaguars have been associated with baddies since the 1950s when bank robbers used them as getaway cars. They also used Transit vans to escape with the gold bullion and, weirdly, I drive one of those too!
