Well then Dale, what I told you would actually be of great benefit. With your 6'3" frame, and your big feet, you won't have to move your seat forward, just consciously put your heel closer to the pedal, and you will see that you get the same effect that you were talking about, you won't even have to move your seat forward!

All, Thought I would take a look at this as well because mine an old 1997 model 4.0 was I thought sluggish for such a fine tuned vehicle. On reading the entire message I found the old XK version just has cable and a small black mounting bracket on the throttle body, with the cable attached to a cam and two nuts to lock it in place. Sure enough on having the pedal pressed all the way to the floor the cam on the throttle body was not touching the upper stop by ¾ inch, on releasing the pedal, the protruding wire portion of the cable was found loose. To adjust it was case of loosening the 13mm nuts and adjusting until the slack was removed being carful not to lift the cam off the lower idle stop, I moved the cable about 5/16 inch.

Once complete and the nut tightened car was checked for idle speed and then tested on the road, what a difference the car just took off, no hesitation and the gears seemed to just flow from low to high without any lag.

Would have to say this was the first thing adjusted on this car that made a difference.

On another note does anyone know where I can get hold of Oatmeal headlining material? No chance in New Zealand however, I have friend in Orlando that is coming out to NZ and he could bring some out if we now where to purchase it from.

Kevo, start a new thread bud with that request, it'll get lost in this thread. There's alot of guys...in all the model areas that could see it and give you a shop or two to contact.

I tighted my cable today about 3 notches in my 01xkr and u were right night and day I instantly noticed the difference. I should have did a before and after pick of the throttle body plate but had to be a considerable difference before goin pass 110mph was slow I hit 135 and chickend out but defenitly had more left. I could also be the new addition of the intake. Check out my pics.

Another satisfied customer... so glad these small 'adjustments' can have such a noticable, positive result. I definitely like mine more, I can only imagine the R versions getting more throttle!

This adjustment ROCKS!!!

So much more responsive, no throttle lag and in gear acceleration has shot up (didn't really need to use the kick down on the test drive but when I did it really shifted...!)

I got mine out on the freeway for the first time after the adjustment and WOW! Kick it hard and it plants your head into the headrest. This is what it should feel like as new. With the center muffler removal it screams like a banshee. Sounds like some of the Lambo's and Ferrari's I occasional hear on the freeway here.

98 XJ VDP owner here. I ran across this thread and finally got around to checking mine. At 38k mi I wasn't sold on the idea that the cable would've stretched much, but I figured I should check it anyway. Sure enough, with the pedal completely depressed (floored), the position sensor was only ~80% to the upper stop. There didn't seem to be much slack, but I figured, what the heck I'll try adjusting it. Well, I found I could adjust the cable to get the pedal to open the throttle completely, but when I did so, the throttle wouldn't return to its normal "idle" position. Hmmm. Well, I guess the only thing left to check is the pedal. Bingo: the pedal stop was screwed in until it was tight, but the carpet was just slightly out of line which meant that the pedal stop was not screwed in far enough. So I pushed on the carpet and screwed the pedal stop in the rest of the way. And then took the car for a quick (pun intended) test drive. :-)

Between this and and the center muffler removal, I now have a "leaper" and a "growler". And the sound at 2000 - 2200 rpm on acceleration is just heaven! DaleD

WOW!!!!
I just made the adjustment tonight and OH MY GOD!

As soon as i put the car in "D" and barely pushed on the gas i noticed a huge difference!
When i went out to open road i was shocked! The XKR is a BEAST now!

I would guess that only the people that read this forum or use the "new posts" link have found this thread. It is applicable to all of the 4.0/4.2 engines, but it does look like it has run it's course for now.

BTW, it appears my session is still special, because I don't have thread ratings either at the bottom or at the top. I do recall having them before, but they are not there now.
