have just made the adjustment to my 1999 XKR. Took all of 30 seconds. Fastest diy fix yet. No cable tie on my cable, but I think I'll add one as I can see how it could easily jump out of the bracket.
Note to administrators... I am not getting rating box either.. using Firefox browser

I don't think enging knocking should be an issue. The car was designed and built to handle the power of a fully open throttle. After I adjusted mine I briefly experienced knocking, but it went away pretty quickly.

Note: If you think you may have gone a little far with your tightening...you might just end up with the Jag idling at 3000 RPM in the garage...ask me how I know this

I looked at the video on Youtube, my 97 XK8 Conv does not have that set up. It is like the pics of the Supercharger one here with the STRAP TIE holding the throttle cable. I HOPE THAT IS NOT FACTORY in that they use a strap tie to hold that. My 97 has the rubber covered cable coming out of firewall that is feed through the bracket where that STRAP TIE is at at which that point the little cable can be seen. On mine at that bracket, I have nuts on boths sides of the bracket to adjust for the tension on the cable. I see a little play in mine.
But man if they put STRAP TIES on these from the factory that is **** poor at the price level of these cars.

Zip ties are nothing new in the auto industry and are extremely durable and strong. I honestly think it is quite humorous in the fact that they used such a simplistic solution for something they could have massively over engineered like so many other things

Sometimes the cheapest solution is the best solution.

I am curious if you did the final step of the adjustment which is pressing the pedal slowly all the way (without the engine running of course). It is my understanding that this readjusts the cable to the right amount (at least this same step was used in the last car I had where the adjustment mechanism was similar).

Come on. 80k car and they use a ZIP TIE to hold a throttle cable in place. That is wacked. Anyways, on the 97 they did it right. I will try to get a pic up.

Yes, I heard a pop when I did this and didn't check to see how far this changed things. I assumed (wrongly) that this final step would put the adjustment in the proper spot. Apparently this didn't do enough and I had to back it off a little more until I got to the right spot.

The cable is attached directly to the spring loaded position sensor. The sensor has a direct released throttle stop and a direct WOT stop. Don't see an auto adjustment link.

Then what is the purpose of the final step required by the JTIS--which states CAUTION: THE ACCELERATOR CABLE MUST BE ADJUSTED BY PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. . . And also the requirement that the adjustment is supposed to be done using the "special tool" that builds in some residual slack? So according to the JTIS the actual adjustment is being done when the cable is pressed so something must be happening.

I'm thinking maybe to adjust the kick-down switch under the pedal. Maybe a tech here can chime in and give us the theory on that.

I don't think so since Step 1 of the JTIS procedure is "Make sure the kickdown plunger is fully seated to the retaining stud shoulder". In other words, the last step of the procedure (pushing the pedal all the way down through the kickdown position) counts on the fact that the kickdown plunger is ALREADY correctly positioned.

Hi Fellas, I just did this adjustment on my 2001 XJ8 4.0 and have to say I'm very pleased with the results!! Before whenever I wanted a bit of power I had to really press the pedal hard and even then it would just grumble. But now its instant power and everything works like fluid. Thanks to all who have helped this post along, it;s worth so much!! S.

The 04+ XJs are similar to the S-type 4.2 throttle control -- all electronic so you won't be able to benefit from any adjustment. Sorry jagmaster.
