Throttle Body Linkage

Throttle Body Linkage
Vehicle is 1997 Jaguar XK8 (X100) 4.0 RHD Auto Convertible:
Instr Panel shows (ENGINE FAULT) with orange light.
Checked with Fault Codes and comes up with 'Throttle Body Linkage'
Vehicle has occasional judder..... continued to drive next day.....
Instr Panel now shows (ENGINE FAULT) with orange light AND then (POOR ENGINE MANAGEMENT) with red light.
Vehicle now difficult to drive.
Action taken:
Removed and checked Air Filter & MAS.... no debris, cleaned the Sensor.
No leaks from pipe assembly.
Cleaned Throttle Body & Plate... looked clean and ok.
Refitted items and started and trial run.
All appears ok with no fault lights.
Questions:
The Throttle Body Linkage is no longer available from the Manufacturers.
The only option for possible replacement is a second hand unit.
Presumably those on sale would have been re-furbished.
And that you buy one that is from a later year in 'better condition'
But what is actually wrong with the one you already have.....
Is it better to completely remove the unit and give it a through clean.....
Or replace it with a Unit from another vehicle which has had the same....
What actually fails in the Unit itself....
Or is the problem with the MAS....?
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Alan.
